1979 VW Bus w/AC?

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by Serpent7, Aug 21, 2014.

  1. I have a 79 VW bus and it has (i'm assuming) factory AC (air conditioning). However, its disconnected from up front (under the blower motor), and I cant seem to find a AC belt in the engine compartment. I'm sure it was disconnected by the previous owner for a reason. However, I cant seem to find any real information on a 79 bus with factory AC? No diagrams, nothing? Does anyone know anyone, or anyplace that may have a wiring diagram, or have good information about these AC? i'd like to have it all back up and working by next summer. Please point me in the right direction. I know some people use a aftermarket (new) AC unit, but I'd like to reconnect my old unit first and see after that which would be better financially to have.

  3. Also have a look on ratwell, maybe? We didn't get too many of the AC equipped busses in freezing Europe.

  4. There should be a unit on the left in the engine bay the belt attaches to

  5. You should have a compressor in the engine bay:

and in the van if its factory should look like this:
