  1. I've owned this since 1994 and it's been a great reliable fun van.

Just passed its MOT and has 89830 miles, so is ready to go!

It's a tax exempt 1976 with factory fitted windows, Devon conversion - I think it might be a Moonraker, or a Eurovette, there's a Devon sticker behind the passenger seat but it doesn't say and they all seem to be a similar layout anyway.

New engine by JH Aircooled Engines in 2001 with 36mm twin Dellorotos, the spec was to make a nice torquey driveable engine. It has a Gene Berg pulley, large capacity sump, uprated oil pump and remote oil filter. New fan housing and tinware and I put on a full stainless exhaust system from Just Kampers - got rid of the awful heat exchangers. This drives very nicely, plenty of torque, this will probably be one of the best driving air cooled baywindows you'll drive. At the same time I had a 2.0lt reconditioned gearbox from Cog Box. This is a stronger gearbox and gives a slightly higher final gearing which is better for cruising. It has an Empi gear shifter, oil temperature gauge and rev counter. New tyres all round a couple of years ago and spare is unused. New starter motor last year as the original one was getting a bit tired. Tow bar with electrics which was only used for a bike rack. Mileage may increase as we're still going to drive it around.

There is a fold out double bed, 12v/gas 2-way fridge, sink, 2 burner hob with grill, 2 x 907 gas canisters, plenty of storage space and cupboards under rear seats and along the side of the van, a locker above the bed with a small wardrobe to the side, a table that fits into the floor. 12v lighting over the bed, leisure battery, curtains all around, 10 disc CD changer with 6 speakers.

It had some bodywork/welding and a respray about 7 years ago, some of it is bubbling up but nothing too serious - might be able to notice some in the photos, but this is 41 year old vehicle so some is to be expected. The colour is a VW blue, the original colours.

I've kept as much of this van original as I could, so it will have some wear and tear to furniture, fittings, etc. All the cushions, interior, cooker, sink, fridge etc are as it rolled out of the Devon workshop. The covering material and foam is getting a bit thin so ideally you would probably want to replace these, but we used these ok last year. The pop top is the original and in great condition. The cab floor is in excellent condition and so are the gutters. Still got the original rubber mats and last year I got a carpet set from Heritage VW, I have the pieces that go under the seats but never got around to fitting them. The front seats are from a Toyota MR2 and very comfortable.

I've got some spares, parts and bits and pieces, and years of paperwork, bills and MOTs.

There are some minor things that need attention. The sink has no pump or outlet pipe - we never used it, mostly camping on sites. The top of the dash area needs repainting. The stick on vinyl floor covering in the rear needs replacing as its come unstuck by the side door. Front drivers side door seal needs fitting. Head lining above cab has split and will need replacing (I've seen thin ply put in its place which looks good.

Overall this has been a trouble free and reliable van to run in all the years I've owned it, it's had regular oil changes, it's a pleasure to drive around in. It's taken me about 5 years to decide to sell this, it was a hard decision and we'll be sad to see it leave.

Any questions please get back to me. I'm happy to talk about this van or send more photos. I tried to take some photos underneath but they didn't come out so well - all photos taken today.

So, if you've read this far - £12,500 ono - based in Sussex

    (hopefully photos will upload)
