I have a project crossover to accompany my Jurgens Autovilla, being fitted with an 1800 type 4 engine. But I am having an identity crisis, which website, early or late?
earlybay claim crossovers as their own due to the low lights and small bumpers - they accept the "ugly vents and big rear lights" i personally reckon this is because they only have a short run (68-72) of full earlies and a 68 is a crossover from a split and a 72 is a crossover to a late.... so you need to help them out as much as you can, that said it does depend if you prefer werthers to haribo.
while we are about it, which vw van can claim the longest run? we get 72? to 79 although i would say full years 73-79 at 6 years so we aren't exactly a massive run.
I've got a crossdresser too Join both forums. TLB is more fun but there are a lot of knowledgable people on EB who can help you out with tech information and also better for buying some of the more obscure parts that match up with the earlies.
i have a late crossover highlights all round early west conversion etc and find both sites helpful , earlygay is a easier place to wind people up but have better smilies but Ricks on here so you can always get a response .
thanks for all your input folks, my rebuild is on ELB under the heading Cheap and cheerful, so you can see where I am coming from! I may put it on here as well. But I was looking up fitting a water cooled motor on the other site and there were some quite vitriolic remarks bandied about, which suprised me, as most people wish to customise their Bays in some way. In South Africa the favourite engine swap is a V6 3 litre ford as in the old Zodiacs and Mk1 Grandads! We have a guy locally who will fit a 2 litre Golf engine with adaptor plate and associated plumbing, including hidden radiator for 800 pounds including engine. And he does a good job!
Mine is a cross dresser too. Big lights wrap around bumpers and square vents. Very odd. But mine has high n dictators on the front but I think the po changed the face but can't be sure. Member of both.
Lola has early front and late back....I joined both, owning a crossover is life on the edge and expensive if you need calipers
