FOR SALE 1971 RHD UK Type 2 Crew cab

  1. Here I have for sale my 1971 RHD UK Type 2 Crew cab. I have done some research and there is only 123 of these on the road so these are getting rarer by the day. When was the last time you saw one of these for sale?

This is not easy for me to do. I originally brought this Crewcab to fix up as well as my Camper van but with a baby on the way I have to choose what one to keep and unfortunately this one has to go.

I brought the Crew cab almost a year ago with the promise that it would not take to much to MOT and use. Unfortunately after taking it to the MOT station this was going to prove much harder and costly than I first anticipated. Most of the underside was neatly covered up with wax oil and after a bit of poking around on the ramp it came apparent that a lot of welding would be needed and the brakes would also need sorting out. With this in mind I set about the task of getting her sorted.

I have had most of the underside completely re-newed with the following,

New floor, out riggers, jacking points, cross members, I beams, top hats, heater pipe, re-firbished front beam and some patching work to the chassis (which luckily was not as bad as the rest).

Also as well as this work she needed new brakes all round which includes new front disks, pads, callipers, new rear drums, shoes, backing plates and pipework.

All the above work has been completed and along with some other bits and bobs she now has a Full MOT and TAX (which is free)

So now to talk about the van. She is complete but needs some TLC.

    The body work,
She has rust and will need fully refurbishing so please be under no illusion this will need work to be mint although she can be driven as she is as a rat. I have some panels that come with the van which will get you on the way to fixing her up. I have a rear offside wing from an import van. Try getting one of these??? The load bed is shot and so is the frame underneath. Luckily I have located a load bed and frame from a van overseas.(in transit as we speak) The Frame is fine but the load bed sheet metal will need work but I do have two panels which once welded in the bed will be complete. Just the panels below from Funky green panels is around £900 so this will save the next owner some money. When I brought the van it had no rear bumper so I sourced and fitted an original replacement which is not fitted.

    Interior,

Its all there but will need re-trimming. Door cards will need re-covering. The last owner changed the front drivers seat for an after market one but I sourced an original seat and this is now welded in. Like I said, its drivable but it is un tidy inside and if I were to keep her I would have the lot sorted.

    Engine,

Engine is good!!! and has lots of goody's. It looks as thought the last owner spent a lot on the engine and thats about it. Not sure if its a 1641 but it certainly pulls like one but I have no way of clarifying this. It has twin carbs, I am not sure of the make but the VW guy who saw this van said they were the good ones I just can't remember the name. It is also fitted with flame thrower coil and electronic ignition, new exhaust system, new starter motor, deep sump (which drips oil ever so slightly) and has recently had a full service. I have also fitted a new engine lid seal and engine tinware seal. The engine has a slight backfire which I am told is because the electric fuel pump needs a pressure regulator which I am in the middle of sourcing and will rectify as soon as I can but this is not serious and when the engine is warm does not cause any issue.

    Wheels,

The van is fitted with Empi BRM speed line alloys with nearly new tyres. I do have a set of freshly powder coated standard alloys if the new owner would prefer but we can sort that out at a later date.

As you can tell I have spent quite a lot of money on the van already and it is a shame to have to sell but I am not going to have the time or energy to give the van what it deserves and with a baby on the way the money would come in handing too. I am looking for £7500 for the van which considering how much I have already spent on the van and how rare they are is a good price for a fully road worthy van. It came with some history but I have all the receipts for what I have brought. It is available for viewing in Bedfordshire. I work 8-5pm weekdays so appointments will have to be around those times although I can meet during the week during the day for serious buyers. I will not be letting anyone drive the van although I will take anyone out in it. Feel free to ask me as many questions as you like. I can send picture of any part of the van you would like to see but I have a young child and don't have the time to do these request straight away but I will just bear with me. I am not interested in any trades but I am looking for a T5 caravelle so bear that in mind. Thanks for looking. My mobile is 07730557798 for any questions or arranging a viewing.

  10. I'd sell my right arm for a crew cab, unfortunately my arm isn't worth £7500.

I'm also having some renovations at the home so can't afford it. Good luck with the sale.
