1700 type 4 running on 3 cylinders

  1. Just gone back to engine put a new set of leads on and fired it up and it run on 4 then dropped to 3 again the timeing needs doing and the engine is running a 3236 carb but set up for a 2litre do you think it could be fuel probs

    Swap the leads around to check its not a dodgy lead
     
  3. There's a chance it's over fuelling and the timing being out won't help much. Check the valve gaps, set timing and then start messing with the jetting. If it's been set for a 2ltr then you'll be running pretty rich
     
  4. Progressives always run rich so you're going to do some serious damage even attempting to use a carb jetted for a 2 litre on a 1700

    When I started with a progressive the engine would always tickover on three cylinders when it was cold. Adjusting the jetting and turning down the second cold running throttle endstop while watching the air fuel ratio meter changed the cold idle AFR from about 11:1 out of the box to 13:1 with hot AFR at 14.5 or so when the choke clicked off.
    And it stopped dieseling when turned off..
