WANTED 1600 engine

Discussion in 'Late Bay Parts Classifieds' started by Scotttie, Sep 27, 2017.

  1. Hi everyone,

I'm looking for a 1600 engine for my bus. Ideally turn key (or close to), but anything considered really.

Let me know if anyone has one for sale!

    Thanks,

    Scott

Mk 3 tina if I'm not mistaken.

    Great colour too.

Reminds me of my dads old car.

With the plethora of Scooby conversions there must be dozens of type 1 engines collecting dust and rust in garages and barns. Give the converters a call, there can’t be many folks wanting a type 1 and they must be tripping over the things – unless they’re all just taken to the tip of course.

    Incidentally, what’s wrong with yours?

  10. Is it a bus case or a beetle case
Any endfloat or other problems with it?

Most don't get left with the converters.
People do what I did; take it home and flog it.

Even if most are taken away that still leaves some with the converters.

  13. Called a few converters - nothing for sale! And they said most of the time people are converting because their engines are knackered!

Still on the lookout for that 1600 engine. Found a few type 4 engines for sale... should I upgrade? If so, can I keep my existing gearbox?

If you’re going to change engine type change it to a Scooby. You’ll probably spend as much rebuilding a type 4 and changing bits so it will fit as a Scooby conversion, but at least you’re going in the right direction those that fit a type 1 instead of a type 4 are completely bonkers.

  15. Think @davidoft mentioned he had `a couple` ??

1776 with tweaks though? or might that as well be the year of manufacture for all you latebayers? :p
