1600 beetle exhaust onto 1600 bay

  1. Hello all,

Engine due back soon, need to sort a new exhaust, had read before that a beetle exhaust can be fitted to a bay, standard 1600 with good results as the sound stock but better, is this the case?
I also notice they do a single hotspot and a twin hotspot, what does this refer to and which would I need for a standard 1600 with single carb and with heat exchangers, and is the zoom tube worth adding for a bit of grunt or do they overpower?

    Cheers all in advance :)

  2. Single hotspot.

A zoom tube will deafen you and attract the coppers.

  3. Is it an upgrade or does it sound better than a standard bay exhaust?

Not sure the tailpipes will make it past you bumper/valance. They do on prototype bay, but late?

  5. this is awesome news for me as I have a beetle exhaust in my garage, looks like its going on the crewcab then!!!

There you go - complete with bus tailpipe, cut in half to make 2 tailpipes for the beetle exhaust.

  7. Is the beetle exhaust a better exhaust over the standard bay one?

  8. You won't get any increase in power by fitting a different exhaust.

  9. Any noticeable difference in sound ie a nicer sounding note ir the same :)

Thanks for your advice so far :)

  10. zed will be the expert, but I wouldn't think a Beetle exhaust would sound any different: designed for the same engine, after all. Plus point might be twin exhausts, which looks quite cool IMHO, if they fit under a Bay bumper. It'll still sound like an air cooler with the "blatt blatt" noise.

A zoom tube has no silencer, so you'll be popular with the neighbours :)

  11. Have a look at Veewee - they do a beetle box/tailpipe system. Migh be a bit mor expensive than a standard bus one though.

  12. I've got a beetle exhaust with tailpipes for sale if your interested?!? PM me and I can send you some pics

  13. a beetle exhaust will fit, but it looks ugly on a bus in my opinion. the pee shooters do most of the sound deadening and the Brazil made ones will last you under a year before the internal mesh separates and the chrome rusts, and then it will sound like a crappy pimped out Cavalier. If you do fit a bug exhaust, get good quality german pee shooters.

The Zoom tube won't sound any better, or improve the looks for that matter.
