Hi Guys, hope all are well. I'm looking at some lighting options in my devon bus. Currently I have some solar powered String lights crudley hanging up along my bunk beds. They look alright, but don't light up enought and make a racket when they rattle around. Would love to see all of your lighting solutions and any advice/tips would be welcome also! P.s looking to light up the cab/cargo area and engine bay via my leisure battery. Thanks!
LED's are the way to go and there are many options to choose from. I've just got two LED strip lights in mine. Gives out plenty of light, also installed a dimmer switch to vary the levels as required.
These look good, and ideally where i'd mount mine, however the devon bunks occupy that space, is the dimmer switch the same to fit as a standard toggle switch?
I got this sort of thing http://www.ledkia.com/uk/buy-led-st...DWi4c2ctQ5TLrCSsUo3D1Ilnk9HFBOXBoCWlMQAvD_BwE Cut strips and wire up to leisure fuse box. I did a strip under the bed board and have cut strips for inside the pop top when it's up.
That could be quite ideal actually, looks like it wouldn't be too wide and could fit under the bunk beds, would you say you're happy with yours? I've always had a bad feeling about the quality of these types of strips...please, convince me otherwise! Lol
@RossHarrison11 Some of them come with plastic sheathing oooer so it protects it. Have a look, I think I chose waterproof one which you can cut easy enough. For about a fiver some of them are cheap enough for you to buy to try out mate
Just this week fitted these to my van. 5m string self adhesive backing control unit remote control for colour and dimming...... £8 delivered!! Also ordered a lighting switch with voltmeter on so i can keep an eye on battery. Picture in daylight, looks great at night Sent from my SM-J320FN using Tapatalk
If you want bizarre; try the digital RGB LED strips. Quite bright and you can change the colour of each LED separately...Just used it on a boat where I did a colour changing "Knight Rider" effect... More to the point : buy warm white LEDs as they are a lot less blue than the more efficient and often cheaper cool white ones. Unless you want to look like zombies...
Ordered 5m of these rgb strip leds with remote ect ect, now just need to work out how to covert them to run from my leisure battery... any help is of course welcome, as i'm a complete novice with a lot of this!
I've added a strip of LEDS above the worktop with individual LEDS (from Ikea) in the roof and a small LED strip light to replace the courtesy light in the cab. All dimmable, easy to install, cheap and, most importantly, low current drain! Sent from my SGP712 using Tapatalk
LED strip is good and flexible to install in lots of places. if you want my opinion, then buy a non ip rated one, as the silicone covering causes the led chips to overheat, or the silicone turns browny yellow after a time, causing a poor light output. also it is better fitted in an aluminium trim, as the aluminium acts as a heatsink, dissipating the heat. stear clear of the cheap stuff on eBay, go into your local electrical wholesalers and buy some powerled/sunpower 14.4w per meter strip, which they do in 5m kits for about £30. it will have a 3 year warranty, and is much better quality than the cheap eBay stuff. also the cheap stuff is 4.8w per meter so not as bright. also the cheap stuff has really pony adhesive compared to a decent brand
Thanks for that. I was just looking at a kit in Go Out Doors. It was £30 but seemed to look good quality. I guess you get what you pay for.
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/112312579000 I have these on a loop system connected to my leisure battery. They work a treat and are easy to wire up.
its very hard to tell as they all look very similar, but after 3 months the cheap stuff starts to break down
I once washed some cheap ebay ones with anti mould spray by accident. Although the front was waterproofed by silicone, the bleach got in the back and killed all the leds in a month.
