Well, after yet another ignition glitch on way to TE I've bit the bullet and bought a 123 dizzy.
Two questions. Do you have to oil the shaft under the rotor arm like most distributors?.
Spacer or no spacer, I've read that it can fitted without, just lift it up 2 to 3 mm, but..... why would you need a 7mm thick spacer if you only need to lift 2 to 3mm ?, wouldn't lifting it up 7mm disengage the drive lugs?.
    Appreciate clarification.

The 2 or 3mm lift is after it has bottomed out. The spacer fits against the shoulder on the distributor body and without the spacer the shoulder is about 7mm above the crankcase after lifting the distributor 2 or 3mm. I fitted a spacer.
I haven’t oiled the shaft under the rotor arm, maybe I should. :)

Ahh! thanks for explaining that, my chum down the road has a lathe so 7mm it is . Is the depth the same on type4 engines as my 1600 tp , I'm presuming it is.

Dunno, I’ve never had a Type 1, and never will. But I suppose it’s the same, 123 only sell one spacer.

The spacer is 36.2mm OD, 27mm ID and 7mm thick.

  8. You don't need any lube on a 123, as it has ball races as bearings. I've run mine for 14 years without a spacer, and it's been fine. Just plonk it in.

Cheers, i presume they're sealed bearings then.

  10. Can't remember. They're fine, whatever they are. Have you bought a 123 yet ;)?

  16. Another “plonk” installation here. No lube, no spacer, no issues.

I think that getting your mate with a lathe to make a spacer is a good idea, but make sure the clamp goes onto the distributor body above the spacer :)

    What's the difference between a standard 123 and a fuel injection 123?
And could you fit a standard to a Fi?
Also do you need the spacer for a type4 engine or can you fit without one?
