123 Dizzy fitting

  1. Hi I just brought a 123 Dizzy basic model vwR to replace my 009 the engine is a 1776 upright engine
It has the standard pressed steel dizzy clamp
Will it fit fine or do I need a thicker clamp or some sort of washer when I fit it?

  2. The standard clamp will fit fine. But...the VW R-V with vacuum advance is the one that you need.

  3. The engine one of Dan Simpson’s he supplied it with the 009 it has twin 40 dels so it’s never had a vacuum advance
I have heard people having problems with the dizzy sitting too deep into the case and damaging the drive ?

  4. One of the Dellortos will likely have a vacuum take-off. Worth having.

The 123 can't sit too deep in the case. It will always sit up a bit. Just push it down until the drive dogs are firmly engaged, and you're done

Don't ram it right in, let it spring back out a 1mm or so.

You should use the spacer so the distributor is at the correct height but as long as it lifts slightly after pushing it down it should be fine. Definitely get the VW R-V regardless of what the engine had before – VW never fitted a 009 distributor.

  8. Unfortunately I already brought it it’s the non vacuum version
My engine seems to run well with the 009 but I always fancied the123 as many people are fans and I couldn’t afford it at the time of building
although I’ve no idea what ignition curve I should select for it any advice on that would be great

  9. I don’t have the spacer do you know what size it is

  10. Curve 0.

  11. You don't absolutely need one. See installation method above.

Curve 9. Why use a generic coverall curve when there's a correct one included?

  13. Because then I can't have curve 2.

  14. Now you got me all confused

  15. Try both! Easy enough.

I think it’s 7mm to obtain approximately 1mm between the drive shaft and the distributor wobble joint.
