1.7 carb or 2.0 FI

  1. As anyone had experience of running both engine types?

    I have a '72 cross over Westie with the 1700cc and a later '79 2000cc fuel injected.

The cross over is immaculate and is my preferred but a bit worried about the power drop and that I could be selling the wrong bus.

I have previously travelled around France in my earlier 2.0FI so have experience of hills in that (which still was sluggish when fully laden'd).

The cross over is unregistered and, being winter, will not get the opportunity to try it loaded until the spring.

Will I notice the difference in power, or are the differences marginal?

    Thanks

whats the spec of the 1700 (carbs etc) - our 2.0 FI goes well enough but we have yet to take our '73 (1641 upright motor) on the road so I cant compare with you on that score

i can't see there being a major difference power wise, the 1700 type 4 has to be revved well but i gather it quite likes to be revved, plus there's less to go wrong on a carb model, the parts for the 2 litre f. i are getting harder/more expensive to find, plus the 1700 is tax free.... i say if one has to go lose the 2 litre.

  4. i would keep 2l better engine and gearbox

  5. put the 2.0 and box in the tax exemp westy .......
