This is a truly god awful tool. It was pretty rubbish when it was new and now it's pretty much done for. The lock down handle Is fubarred so you need pliers to adjust the height setting. Best thing I can say about it is it comes in a case and it had a plug on. Yours if you collect...
damn too far, I actually have one but if no one is interested, do you have any router bits? if so ill have them?
Mines a MOF 98 Oh, any good? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Genuine-E...Home_Garden_PowerTools_SM&hash=item1e7d038962
Thanks Keith, but it's actually broken on the casting that those bits attach too. I've done 3 sets of work tops with it broke...that's how desperate I am to keep it. I think I have a spares or repairs one lined up
I was looking for a spare but they fetch silly money, bottom bearing went and melted the fan, scissors sorted it in the end
Never used a router and looked on with envy at the ease some people exhude in producing beautifully finished items. Its a must have for me now - whats a good one to start with. Had a look at them in (ahem) B+Q and no idea what to get.(off subject Im sorry)
Dewalt, Makita, Bosch etc, any of the known makes would be good to start on, just avoid the silverline type stuff IMHO, i only do the basic woodworking stuff but as you say if you know what your doing you can do amazing things with one
I have a dewalt one which I chose as its yellow and I fancied a change of colour from the rest of my green makita stuff. The cheaper routers have movement laterally in the uprights which means the cuts you get are not good. If you buy one, before you pay - try to rock the motor casing forwards and back when it's extended - if you can see or feel any movement don't buy it. I mainly do worktop mitres and the odd bit of detail work if I'm making shelving or matching up skirtings...
Don't bother with the lighter Trend router (T4), I'm on my third one now and all I do is use them with a hinge jig. My 1/2" Elu is over 20 years old and all it's had is a new set of bearings, this was only after the floods when it was submerged for 24 hours and the ball bearings pitted. Dewalt took over from Elu, so this would be where I looked if I was forced to buy a new one. I've had 2 Bosch 1/4" last less than a year as well. I've a couple of really cheap ones that I tend to leave the same bits in, so they see very little use. If you find a good one, let me know! If your just getting started get a good book, Router Magic or similar.
I've got a couple of 177Es, a brilliant piece of kit to say the least. Very easy tool change, accurate depth adjustment, just so easy to use. Both mine have had several rebuilds never because of flooding but because of years of constant hammer. Wouldn't have anything else, period, tried many others but none came close
