Wasn't aware there was an "injection" 123. Be odd if there was. The ignition has nothing to do with the fuel supply. Just plonk the standard unit in.
There is a variant to emulate the distributor hall sensor ECU triggering output for some VW FI. Most FI systems are triggered by the ignition as it gives a baseline fuel flow rate that varies with the engine speed, or at least turns off the injectors when the engine stops. But if your FI takes its trigger from the points connected to the coil, all you need is any 123 with vacuum advance..
This it has two extra wires. https://www.123ignitionshop.com/gb/volkswagen/267-151-vw-4-r-v-ie.html#/1-distributor_cap-straight_r Sent from my SM-G981B using Tapatalk
Have a look in your Haynes, see what kind of injection you've got (I'll have a look in mine later). I suspect you've got L-Jetronic, rather than D-Jetronic (famous for taking early retirement), in which case the IE unit won't serve any purpose.
Ian, I think yours is a '78 as is mine and mine used to be the L -Jetronic. I'm also interested in the 123 so your question was very useful.
But having the extra wires doesnt matter because AFAIR that system still fired the coil from points but had an extra low-voltage pulse feed to the ECU.
And probably find that said low voltage pulse can be "synthesised" off a resistor and a zener diode and a capacitor between coil negative and ground anyway - to get rid of the 200V overshoot on top of the 12 volt signal from the points. Its what I use in the "front end" of my home made rev counter electronics.
Well i actually fitted the new 123 plus spacer two days ago along with the 'group buy' Lares steering coupler , I've left it on curve 0 for now, set to 28°-30° max advance, starts and runs fine, bit smoother maybe. Thanks again to iblaze for the loan of your Accuspark dizzy, got me home fine from TE, and thanks to Mike James for your help.
Did you get the bluetooth version? Just fitted one to my old Alfa Sprint Coupe & you get a read out on your phone. It gives revs, GPS speed, advance etc. There is also an immobiliser which works brilliantly
I’ve had the Bluetooth version for over a year now. Well worth it, set up a curve to suit my type B engine that idles at 0deg Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
No, i went for the 123/VW-R-V I've left it on curve 0 for now. Timed to 28°- 30° max advance. Stock 1600tp engine.
