Nah, did they turn out terrible?? Lol. Well i'm not sure exactly how flat my panels are anyway, but i got a block of wood, with a thin layer of polystyrene stuck to it, then sandpaper round it. Then on the curvy bits i just used my hand. Reckon it'll turn out Marmitee?
Thought id treat my SECOND HAND air mask to a new carbon filter before i get to spraying, it came today, took the old one out. Oops New one is good until 2020
So i planned to kick the 3 day weekend off by painting inside... But wjen i went to get paint, the shops shut. Doesnt open on weekends :/ So i decided to start on the poptop. Got it bare metalled Several of the rivets had lost their heads anyway and practically fell out So i drilled out all the rivets, put a blob of tigerseal in the hole then a nice new ali rivet Also added a load of bracing pieces that i made a while back.
Then i started primering. Got the slider and the poptop in a coat of etch, but forgot to take a pic. Then some high build. And the bumpers
More work on the poptop today. All the screws were rusty, so i had to grind the tops off and then use mile grips to get them out. Only 5 snapped off, which i then had to try drill out. Then cleaned and sanded And then the inside of the outer bit. It was poorly painted before Top was pretty grimey too I have sanded it down so it has a bit of shine to it, needs a polish. Gave the corner a quick rub with autosol
Todays update... Got this bit primered up Also sanded down and primered the grill and fire wall. The grill was going to be white and firewall black, but bth in body colour would look better. Then sanded down all the aluminium strips that hold the devon concertina bellows, got them primered and painted them white with a rattle can
So, after a quick trip to the paint shop. I got 2l of white and 1l of orange... £210! Wasnt expecting it to be that high. So anyway.. Trying not to waste a drop. And the inside of the track covers I still have the floor to do next weekend, and touch up a few areas, but overall the finish is pretty good! Especially around the windows.
Yeah it was max meyer, i asked for the good quality stuff. Think it was 45 a litre plus vat, then i had to get 2.5l of hardener too. I think this will do the entire inside of the shell, then probably the poptop/bumpers too. Then i'll have to get a load more for the inside of the doors and the entire outside. Oh, also painted these... They were powdercoated, but the colour difference was really obvious.
And today we have colour!!!! I'm soo stoked with the finish, it looks great. I'm gonna stone chip the cargo floor sometime this week and then i can get the inside finished next saturday. Then its a case of starting on the outside top half!
Looks wicked, did you apply the laquer while wet or are you sanding inbetween colour and laquer? Sent from my SM-G900F using Tapatalk
Sorry I'm no paint pro my self I was trying to expand my knowledge from you I think it depends what kind of paint you use whether you need laquer on or not like metalics etc. Sheilsy seams to know about paint. Im still quite new to it all and the forum. Sent from my SM-G900F using Tapatalk
