  3. I wonder why noone does the stretchy curtains for bays would save on the over the top things most people have that take half the bus up, dont actually cover the windos and drape out abot 4 inches from the side of the van at the bottom. They would be much better.
Where do you get em from?

Didn't realise I hadn't put a pic in here of my temporary units (I did a separate thread) so I'll just stick a couple here, these units will get me by this year as I don't want to skint myself getting it nice and not afford to go camping. All units are just kitchen units from work cost me nothing but time.

Obviously I'm limited to access with bed up/down but at least I've got some storage.
I fitted some 240v sockets which leads me on to what I've done today.

So today I wanted to get the bulk of my wiring for 12/240v done, still got to source a double pole consumer unit (again I did another thread) but I wanted to get the site socket in. I didn't want to cut the van so needed to go under it, problem is there's plastic trays all along (like bay pans) which I had to remove to see if I could fit it where I wanted. I needed it somewhere by the drivers seat as I was fitting the leisure battery and ctek etc under it.
Found a grommet under the seat but it's too big and in the wrong place, no worries as I could use that for my battery vent, so I drilled the floor where I wanted the hole.

Grommet back in and 240v wire secured with a gland.

    Fitted socket to sill.

    Cut tray to fit.

I'm happy with clearance and access is ok for hooking up.

Next job was to get the battery in and secure, I managed to get it length ways by undoing the seat from the base and I made a brace to hold it in place, I've got the wires in for the 12v for lights, that's the yellow one to the little fuse box, I've earthed to the seat mounts and put the ctek connection on, also added a thick live for a propex/fridge in the future, the earths are run for the 240/12v so I can crack on once I get the consumer unit sorted.

That's a tidy hookup install, nice how you've got it all tucked away under the seat.

  14. Good work Rick. Seems the best way to go with the free units to get you and about.

  15. Looks like it's coming together nicely, good idea on the free units! You can work out what you need & want before taking the plunge!

yep, just awaiting my correct consumer unit and it will all be under there including the c-tek, then i just need to hide the wires to the plugs - will do them "properly" when i know what units will go in "for keeps" but i'll probably trunk them for now, i won't have all the orang-e cable on show when it's the real thing, this is practical over pretty - i need to go camping!

@Dicky @matty one of you said not to run 12v/240v together, is there a reason? also it's ok for the 12v/240v to share an earth location? ta.

    It's fine
As your using double insulated flex
Earth points I can't see why not but its not good practice I would go for separates.

Dicky has done the regs recently so may have more info

cheers, it just seems strange (earth) as the whole van is in effect "joined together" ? hopefully @Dicky will see this

  20. Yeh, read that. Short answers are, earthing... I cant see why you ouldnt use the same point, however it should be stressed thst the actual terminations themselves sjould be seperate in case the connection to the van develops a high resistance resulting in a lower impedence path through the negative wiring systm of the van.. This is more good practice than a regulation. As for segregation of the wiring systems from memory i dont think there are any segregation distances so i dould agree that as the flex is insulated by its nature then that should be ok. Will check when i can but seems a daft reg as they do insist on flex anyway. It would be adviseable to have the low voltage wiring in some sirt of containment along its runs and seperate holes if passing through a bulkhead would also be good practice.
