  2. Right thats it ive given up on the paravan looking nice

Ive took the cover off this morning and put it up in the air and had a good look over and under it
Now bearing in mind the van hasent really done any miles over the last few years apart from on a trailer
Loads of brand new rubber parts ive fitted have cracked and split
Parts ive painted with hammerite smooth are corroding aswell as parts painted with halfords spray enamel also corroding
Brand new boge dampers and brand new steering rods are corroding
The start of rust is starting to show on some parts of the body work and seam sealer is cracking in places
The seam on the sliding door repair has cracked through the paintwork
Dents seem to be appearing from nowhere on it

Now paul weeding is aware of the seam sealer problems and the sliding door problem and is going to take the paravan back to rectify these faults so its not a rant at paul:)

Just all the time and expense thats gone into it so far and ive not even used it i dont now why i even bothered putting the effort in:mad:

From now on the game changes
Im going to finish of undersealing the van and start building it back up
***** to it looking good im just going to get it on the road and through an mot

Me too :D. Got a nice wash in the rain last week

  6. yep same thing as happened to mine, except i am able to use my bus. make sure it isnt parked on grass or a gravel driveway as the moisture will still get to it. solid concrete only.

  7. Not thought about that. Mine lives on a concrete standing and tbh I wanted to dig it up and gravel it but that's a good point. Think if it lives outside you need to get something to inhibit the rust. That said thy do seem to rot faster if they aren't used.

  11. Welcome to my world!....Sod it Para...it's an old van!....the exact same thing dawned on me a while back...
Doesn't help when you see so many fantastic buses owned by folk fortunate enough to be able to do a blank cheque resto...
I was having this very conversation with a mate of mine yesterday...When we were younger, you'd see the occasional minter, and lots of vans that were obviously running projects. These days, almost every other bus is a show and shine candidate (which I don't begrudge), but it translates as higher prices for everything- initial costs, used parts, specialist services etc. One could argue that it's a good thing as it maintains higher values, but unless your income rises inline with Dubflation you're on a losing wicket...

Get cracking on whatever jobs need doing, and put your time and skills to good use. I reckon it's still much more rewarding DIY, even if it isn't going to win best in show .....sounds rich coming from me, but we don't always practice what we preach;)

  13. Mine seemed to do very well at keeping the van dry but its off now
It will be staying off as ill probably be more inspired to crack on if i see the van everyday rather than a big silver blob

  14. You painted all your bits with hammerite didn't you??

Unfortunately single pack paints are carp these days :(

I just use waxoil unless asked otherwise... Tried and tested!! Details are done in 2k or powder coat

  15. Just some bits in hammerite smooth and some other bits in halfords spray enamel
Everything ive done in tractor enamel is fine unless ive bashed a chunk of paint off it fitting it
I dont know what paint they use on new components like dampers nowadays but its pants aswell

  16. It'll be a fast drying acrylic at a guess... Again just a single pack paint, it might even be a water based paint...

Damn EU and their regulations

  17. Sounds familiar, I painted the underside of the cargo floor and chassis in black hammerite and it started rusting through after not too long. The cab floor & inner wheel arches I painted in hammerite and then daubed underseal all over, they're still the same as when I painted em. Long story short, IMO bare paint underneath is just inviting the rust in, no matter how pretty it looks. But then I'm never gonna win show & shine! :D

    At last!

Find that picture of you camping on the moors out in the wild.

Look at it and get the vibes back,

And then go out camping with your family.

You're girls and wife will not be dissapointed if they're out having a good trip in a van with a dent in it.

They won't come back from a weeks camping and say, "it was ok, but there was a bit of rust on the headlight surround which spoiled the whole week for me."

Sorry it's all going rusty before you got it finished, that's bliddy annoying! But it's just stuff and perhaps a sign that keeping such an old thing pristine is next to impossible so you may as well not bother trying too hard. Works for me. I may have a sheet of metal riveted to the tatters of my battery tray but my van does what it says n the tin.
