Very interesting and yet another example of why we can't afford to trust politicians. That one was Tony Blair but it doesn't matter what party they're in if their lips are moving.....

God help us if they ever manage to control the press.

It isn't just the politicians you can't trust. It's the rotten establishment. The Scots establishment is no better!

  15. Funny, isn't it. Politicians all lie and cheat to get elected by promising the gullible (that's us, by the way) what we want and telling us it won't cost us anything. The Scottish politicians seem to be trying to sell themselves as 'better' than Westminster because they Scottish and therefore automatically trustworthy, whereas in fact they are just more of the same.

  16. To take this a step further, prior to the Commissioners, the police were independent of political control no matter which party were in government. Answerable to the Local Police Authority made up of all political parties and interested organisations. Now the police are controlled by a single politician in an area (eg.Paddy Tipping in Notts, former Labour MP) and their political leanings.
I'm all for police being answerable to the politicians but not directed by them. Thin end of a wedge to political control of the masses?

  17. I can't wait for them to leave. they can keep their bit of oil and good riddance to them.
if i had a vote it would be yes

My boss has already hinted at pulling our trucks out of Glasgow to Carlisle and charging more for deliveries over the border!

  19. Yes, it's supposed to make the police democratically accountable at a local level, but in reality just makes them accountable to the party with the majority in that area. These people are chosen by the respective party and not the local people, so they are not accountable and owe their jobs to the party machine, so they're going to promote their own party's policies not local needs. Just an example of 'more' and 'local' democracy being nothing more than well paid jobs for the boys.

Bad Faith, but brilliant forward planning. Totally underhanded and devious, but whoever came up with this scheme I want in my team:thumbsup:
