  1. Ten quid a liter for tractor enamel Malc and a liter goes a long way:D

  2. Im still on the same tin i did all my tinware, gearbox, fuel tank gearbox etc
For the money its very durable, leaves a nice shiny finish and is easy to apply with brushes and rollers

  3. Any further forward on sorting a case for your engine?

  4. Not at all dude:(
Not to worry im a while of that as once i move ill have to mothball the van whilst id do the house tidy up

  5. If i knew someone who could machine a spacer i could reuse this case at a push

  7. We both thought a spacer had been left out of my last rebuild
I posted that vid to show we were probably correct

I thought about using bearing lock a long while ago lol
The thing is its a bug case and it needs some machining
Thats no foundation to build a reliable bus engine on

  8. Been thinking about my old bug engine. It has 280000 miles on it and is like triggers brush. Different heads pots pistons cam etc etc. only crank, case manifold and fan shroud remain. End float is massive and been talking to my dad about machining a "shim" to put in the case as per video.
What metal would you do this out of?

  9. Steel...

Well that's what the thrust shim was made of in an old vege engine that I rebuilt back when I was cutting my teeth on air cooled engines

  10. You could always use another bearing and trim the thrust face off it to use as a thrust spacer.

  11. If i was closer I would lend you the engine out of Henry ,but it might be a bit dirty for your bay...:D

  12. Ive started daubing underseal into all the nooks and crannies with a brush aswell as giving the underside a quick coat
No worries about it looking Marmitee at this stage as once its set for a while ill be spraying over with the shutz gun and compressor
This will give a more even and textured looking coat
The conduits i painted in enamel will have the excess underseal removed from them with thinners on a rag

  13. For those that are looking in and dont understand why im doing things this way

When people say the top hats are rotten and they often are
The rot starst from the spot weld that joins the cargo floor to the top hat

It starts as there are loads of gaps from the cargo floor pressings
Its the gaps between the pressings that collect mud, salt and horse Marmite etc

By daubing underseal in those gaps with a brush i know that underseal has got right into the gaps
Also when i spray the underseal later it will seal it completely so no future ingress can happen

  14. Is that the engine covered in columbian marching powder

  15. No mate ,brand new engine ,the load bed has gone ,and my chop saw is mounted on the back ,sawdust is protecting it...;)

  16. Not been in here for a while Para. Van is looking sweet now fella.

Could you not use tiger seal / seam sealer along the gaps in the floor pressings? Not cheap but it would be suitable wouldn't it?

  17. Yes sealing it up with polyurethane seam sealant would be fine
As there is the chance slight corrosion may have allready started in those gaps
I like the idea that the surfaces are getting a coat of wax over them aswell as sealing it from future ingress

  18. it's a funny one sealing gaps....with seam sealer, waxoyl, underseal or whatever.....if you seal a box section and water sill manages to get in (which it has a tendency to) if there's no facility to allow that water to either drain or dry out (with evaporation), then it rots from the inside out.....which is what happens to the top hats etc. as you suggested....Guess there's little we can do to prevent it.....just slow the process down as much as possible....I've used various things on cars/motorbikes to stave off the inevitable, but Owatrol is one of my favourites as it's more pernicious than water and works out cheap compared to other products claiming to fulfil the same function...old engine oil is probably as good as it gets, but let's face it.....it looks like crap and is really messy to apply unles you're bus is on a ramp

  19. Ive got a rear arch tub prepped and painted tonight

  20. Cavity wax and ensuring drain holes are clear takes care of the interior of panels and box sections etc
I wouldent use old engine oil as the by products of combustion it contains are corrosive

Its a can of worms discussing preventative measures against corrosion on any vehicle forum
Ive found what works for me over the years and so stick to that

It has pained me to underseal the van after all that time removing the old stuff and prepping the bottom of the van
I would love to paint it with rustoleum combi colour thats been colour matched to the body
The thing is the paravan is to be used in all conditions and not just for show so the underseal makes best sense
