  1. Now why would anyone dislike the police ;)

  2. very easy to be a critic, but you should try dealing with the wonderful public, with the reduced staffing levels, longer hours, and their bad manners.

You need to realise that you and yours police our country by consent, our consent, and we are the public that most if not all police like you from your comment despises, we've had it on here before and it never takes long on a thread like this for a bobby shows his hand like you have, the problem here is that you treat us all like criminals, your used to dealing with scum but you can't seperate scum from normal joe and it shows to often, the police are beginning to lose that consent that keeps you all in relatively cushty secure well paid and pensioned jobs that we all pay for  I love a good rant but I hate crims and breaking the law, not your laws, they're all our laws :hattip:

  4. I think the same can be said of anyone working in the public sector. People forget that a bit of politeness goes a long way. Some have, unfortunately, a 'entitled' mindset these days that switches the numpty dial to high.

  6. I think the police force is a fantastic idea. The trouble is the UK police are only police in name, in reality they are revenue collection officers. The police always look out for big business and crimes that are easy to investigate like facebook abuse etc. Burglaries and car theft forget it. I am not a criminal, I've never nicked anything or been in serious trouble and I have 2 good friends that are police, one is CID (we all know what that stands for lol). I know a few revenue collection officers, to be fair they are generally nice people as you all probably know. Stick a badge on the same guy and a fancy dress costume and look out a sudden change for the worst.

  15. I retired aged Forty, that was the norm for non commissioned rank I was. REME WO1 ASM, it was the norm for Army officers to retire 55, i do believe RAF non commissioned go on to 55 to.
It was changing when I got out in 1990 where as if you didn't attain a certain rank and qualification within certain time frames the Army could discharge you.
You could go onto 55 in the Army if you worked in other departments outside your corps or cap badge say as administrator in large base units.

That's right buddy. Whole time only though and in norfolk there's about 8 whole time to thirty odd retained stations. in norfolk ball games have been banned for health and safety lol

  17. Thanks for that.
The reason I asked is that the Police, and soon the fire brigade, will be retiring when they reach 60 and still be expected to pass a fitness test and I wondered how the military dealt with it. This is the reason, i believe and willing to stand corrected, why the fire brigade are currently having their industrial action. It is felt that the government is setting the lower ranks of both services up to fail and therefore not reach pension age.
Personally I do believe here should be some fitness / medical component but the level has to be achievable and realistic.

  18. It is a shame that @Lardy posts have been removed.
It appears that it is OK for some people to slag off a persons profession and integrity in general terms such as being fat, lazy, corrupt etc in very vociferous tones yet it's not ok when that person replies in a similar manner.
At least @Lardys comments were more factually and experienced based than others very general ranting's.
Whilst I am totally fascinated to find out how as certain person, as Chief Constable of Woodylubberland, he would get his staff do a better job, I feel that it is a total waste of time and effort trying t have a balanced and reasoned discussion with someone who clearly has some deep rooted issues against an organisation and people who have any connection to it.
So with this in mind, rather than try and give a balanced and experienced dimension to such threads, I am going to remain silent on such matters.
Now, where is that delete button.

  20. I just signed on to 30 years service, which will take me to age 48. If I make Flight Sergeant then I will be able to go to age 55 however I won't be going past 22 at the moment.

There is talk of raising the retirement age. Not sure how it will work though
