Redid the bracket so it was matching either side then fixed to each wheel arch with bed central. Frame screwed to floor.
Very nice. My bay has another bit of chassis on each side running diagonally between the main chassis rail and the A arm mount. Did VW not bother with them in the late 70's?

Bump stop catch plate... they're only held on with about 3 spot welds... Really not unusual for them to be missing
