Hi guys, I need your expert advice please again, I will try and keep this short as possible. Specs -> 1600 twin port, new fuel pump & pedestal, new flame thrower 009 electronic dissy, new leads, timing set up on strobe 7.5 degrees of advance, stock 34pict3 carb (Stripped & Cleaned), the problem i have is that it splutters after going up hill as if lose of power, it stalls occassionaly when slowing down and stopping, but when travelling on the flat it is pretty much ok but with the occasional flat-ish spot, I have changed the fuel filter when i got home which was really dirty and full of bits. would i be near the mark if i suspected crud in my fuel tank being sucked into the carb, or is it something else. your advice is really appreciated. thanks skid
thanks bud for replying so quick, with regards to the tank i suppose its a new one then ? and as my old dissy was a vacuum advance one I'm assuming i will need a SVDA electronic one?? if so which make do you suggest please? cheers skid
Whs. You need a vacuum advance distributor. Also until this weekend it has mostly been too cold for centre mount carburettors fitted with after market air filters. If you are not using the stock air cleaner with the air takeoff by the cylinder head going to the air cleaner trumpet , the air going into the carburettor is too cold.
You can clean them, there are posts on here but I have never done it, stuff like this http://www.frost.co.uk/por15-fuel-tank-sealers.html SVDA is the corrct one mate. Accuspsrk ones are good for the money, I havn't bought one for a while but they were £40 ish

Your dissy will suit someone with twin carbs I think. I don't do twin stuff so have no knowledge. Pop a for sale ad mate for your dissy
Skid chuck up a pic of your engine bay please It helps us spot obvious missing bits How often does it cut out when slowing to a stop Is your idle erratic or high?
@volkswombat umm normal i suppose, @paradox will get a pic tomorrow the ones i have are old ones and won't show the new dissy etc, idle is ok, initially at the beginning of the journey nearly everytime it cuts out, however when the tank gets emptier it seems to run a bit better oddly its really weird. its as if its fuel starvation And it holds back.
Mine looks like a helter skelter, cuts out sometimes too! Therefore err yes. Maybe an arze will help?
negative... I suggest you take your carb off and make sure the float height is set correctly, and the seat valve isn't worn.....if it feels like fuel starvation, it probably is....the KnN won't help in cold weather.....neither will having insufficient advance (as supplied via the Vac ) at low revs...you may find that it is over rich (similar symptoms to under fuelled)

my mate Glynn is putting it on the ramp tomorrow and draining the tank then looking inside the tank for crud etc and changing the fuel lines and then going from there, but TBH I'm preparing myself for a new tank and hopefully changing my 34pict for a set of twin webers,
White pipe is the fuel breather from the petrol tank. It usually goes into the top of the air filter. See how it runs with that pipe open to atmosphere, it will only smell of petrol!
