hi peeps , just bought a new plastic skylight for my devon poptop and when I came to drill it for the lifting holes the plastic just shattered , I did back it up with a piece of timber but it didn't help , I then had a few practices on the damaged plastic but which ever way I tried the plastic just splintered or cracked , before I buy another at £ 36.50 is there a way of drilling without causing damage or is there an alternative on the market that fits the same cutout which is 400 x 400 , I did think of melting the hole with a hot pipe or something but it just dunt seem right . help please , cheers paul
i took mine out completely as it was more potential leaks and there's enough *ventilation* in the bus anyway. Can't say i've missed it.
Sharp new drill spinning fast with very little pressure, slow feed , drill stand to control feed, in a warm room , tape on both sides. Or just melt the holes with a soldering iron, then clean up with a very sharp knife while its still warm. Alternatively a piece of aluminium pop riveted over the hole with insulation to stop condensation dripping . I think there is a Fiamma vent the same size.
hi , tried new drill slow fast , didn't use tape so in morning ill give it a go on the damaged one to see if it helps , think I might go for the cover up with ali cheers
How quick do you think I work? I need something rattling around the van for at least 6 months before I get the need to do something with it. But yes its the JK Fiamma one, comes in at about £50. Waiting to replace roof seals and will fit that at the same time. Stu
