Bummer just had the cost for machine work Line bore and thrust cut, crank polished, 4 small ends looks like the van will be off the road for a while longer best dust the tent off
Thanks Matty! I think I am in big poo! Have my engine on stand was just going to replace valve guides but I can move my crank shaft approx 1 cm maybe 8 mm either way through the crank case! Flywheel and pulley wheel are off! I guess this means split the crank case!
Can't thank you enough Matty! Will look at that later and work out what I have to do! I hope yours goes ok, good luck with it!
£300+vat including small ends but no other bearings, hot wash, crank polish, line bored and thrust cut and everly checked for square. Tried a few of places but not many will do the line boring and thrust cut The guy did say it was borderline in needing it but wasn't totally sure until he got it on the machine but i decided to have it done so i know its good as i want it right so hopefully will not have to worry about it.
Eek! Had my little ends done for £6 each including the bush which cost about 50p. Can't comment on the boring, but that sounds very expensive to me... Crank polish can't be much Washing can't be much Checked for square? I hope it's square that's the whole (most of) the idea.
Ring these and ask. Cambridge Rebores. They were next door to T2D before T2D moved so they'll know what you're talking about, or have you done the deal?
i have to let them know in the morning so might give them a call its would be getting the bits to them that would be a problem
If the price is right a courier might seem like a snip. I'm just guessing, maybe Paul will be along to comment. I think being in the middle of nowhere he's not spoilt for choice but I bet he'd gag at that price.
I'm holding out for a 2ltr complete engine, having looked at the state of both my 1600s internals I want to start with a decent base! Is there much scrap value in 2 magnesium cases, 2 cranks, 8 cylinders?
Yeah, that it a touch on the steep side, I've not spoken to my new machine shop to see if they can do line bores... I know back in the day they used to do a fair bit of vw rebuilds, but that was the old man and not the son!! The old shop I used, which is also the same place as what Laurie uses is £168+vat just for a line bore... needless to say I won't be using them again It's about an hours work to set up and bore the case... Unfortunately you'll need to get on the phone and do some ringing around... Isn't TES down your way??
with the bits off to the shop time to tackle the mountain of tin wear Degreased and wire brushed still need further cleaning but will tidy up all the muck before that Need some bits if you have any i need the other side of this And a good one of this as this one only has one screw hole left and a big rust hole
