Hi My type 4 been stood all winter and now runs like a pile of s**t! I had it tuned before i parked it up for the winter but now it stools and coughs every time i go to pull away with no power and a massive delay in power takeup. I have only took it down the track by our house because i want to delay taxin it until april, Do they suffer like this from being stood? Would it normally clear with a longer drive out? Any suggestions?
Yes they do suffer when left, fuel goes stale, hydraulic followers drain down, you can get damp into plug leads distributor cap and corrosion on the points, how long have you run it for ?
thats a concise and comprehensive answer. What year is it - does it have hyraulic lifters. if so it may sound like a bag of spanners. How long has it been stood long? If it were mine id make sure I had my RAC card, a flask and take it for a good blast, probably putting some fuel in there too!
Mine was stood for some time before I bought it and the garage couldn;t get it to rev at all - turned out to be the advance mechanism inside the dizzy (the bob weights) were all rusted up and not advancing on revving - worth putting a timing light on it and seeing if the timing advances when you throttle up.
it has only been stood 5 months. i started it now and then but havent took it for a proper run since sept. ran fine in sept.
Ideally the engine wants running up for 20 minutes to get all the damp out and stop the heads from coking up!!
could equally be bad fuel after 5 months... petrol doesn't last long these days... have a sniff of the fuel in the tank... you'll be able to smell if it's off, as it gets a slightly rancid smell to it!!
Depending on how much rubbish petrol in the tank a couple of gallons of new usually perks it up enough.
