Maybe I'm missing something but could we not establish now that, in the event of no main sponsor coming forward in time for next April, a subscription will kick in?
If there were to be a TE style before-the-event list of "interested parties" for full access, the amount could be divided accordingly.
My guesstimate would be 40 x £25 btw

How do you currently take money from sponsors? And as said previously happy to donate to the cause - I will start the ball rolling with £40 why not everyone who is happy to donate pledge in this thread and then you can see how quickly you get to the £1200 - any excess can be either used to better the forum or put into techenders or something like that. Once you are confident money can be raised tell us How to send to you

    Sponsors donate directly to Bloodrunners.

By keeping stum about the total the small sponsors pay? I realise it's been a good thing for Blood runners and maybe you just keep this forum alive for that, but what you appear to be saying is that the sponsorship that goes to bloodrunner is ring fenced for that.
I'm still baffled as by moving to facebook you'd loose that anyway so... why not simply double the small sponsor price and carry on? IIRC they pay a silly small amount as it is? (sorry sponsors!)
And maybe instead of the rather misleading "sponsor" under their user names who anyone other than them would assume meant they sponsor this site it should read "Blood Runners Sponsor"?

  10. So all we need is another mug, sorry, I mean volunteer, that will host the forum on donations received basis and job's a good 'un?

Always presumed that the sponsors were just that ..... charity donors would be more appropriate phrase.
As stated by @Zed, nobody benefits from discontinuing the forum, so it's really just a question of how to replace " missing " running costs........and a sensible and popular alternative has been put forward.
You don't get owt for nowt nowadays.

The forum is already hosted, what we need is the money to pay for it.
It's all fine to say we need donations (and I'd happily stump up my share) but someone has to herd the cats to pay, and look after the books, and pay the hosts, and act as treasurer.
If anyone wants the job, please raise your hand ;)

  15. But we've still got no indication of what those expenses are. Surely someone must know?

I am surprised that sponsorship money goes to a charity. Surely it should go to the upkeep of the forum, which is what I - and many others I'd imagine - had assumed.

The money only went to charity when cherished paid the hosting and IT fees.

Has it been set up yet? Why the delay? I can’t wait much longer

I think the £1000 hosting fee was probably stated on the original "We need a new site sponsor" thread (which may be a 'stickie' in the general discussion forum) but it does get mentioned again a few pages back (earlier today) by HailFrank.
I believe that as the entire hosting fee was paid by one site sponsor (who have now not renewed) and that any additional revenue from smaller sponsorships (banners, side adverts, and the normal sponsorship such as our 'business' members contribute) was excess to requirements so therefore was donated to the Blood Runners charity directly.

(it's taken me so long to type this, @hailfrank has beaten me to answering!)
