Your injection ECU is going to get mighty confused by that, as the track is worn/non-existent in places. There's no carbon track where you can see the white substrate.
Its a pity some enterprising person hasnt taken measurements off a 'good' one and then fitted an optical encoder( stick on disc with markings) and emulated the resistor track. Or made a converter from a modern AFM ...
Bit modern for the old rubbing a pencil over the track dodge used on audio equipment of the vintage variety, not that I would have ever done that
if you obtain another AFM make sure its a seven pin one for your model....the six pin is for 75/76 only.
Could you bend the copper "U" thingy so it runs on a clean bit of track (slightly under the worn portion)?
EProbably a bit soft but there is carbon "aquadag" paint available on eBay.. The original coating would have been some ceramic mixed with metal oxides and carbon. And then fired in a kiln.
Not a bad idea, but I'd doubt it would be as robust as the original stuff. I think they bake thick film on.
I've been quoted £185 + VAT to refurbish the AFM. Given that I can't find, and never have seen, a used Cali AFM, and this is the only company I've found who actually refurbish them, what do we think?
