Drain your tank, run it down as much as you dare then drain the rest. Buy yourself a cheapo endoscope, fifteen to twenty quid if you have an android phone, fifty quid if you runs IOS because the only one that`ll work is a fairly decent wi fi one with a light attached. Lower the endoscope into your tank and make sure its dry then locate this little top. Pull your scope out and attach a retrieval hook to it, go find it again then ******* about and pull that sucker out. Give your tank a good once over while you is in there looking around. if you get stuck, I got some wi fi ones here, new ones. If it don`t dissolve and clag up something, it`ll maybeeeees block your outlet or summfink, in the most convenient place imagineable to be sure Ozziedog,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,plus , you can post up a video for bits and giggles
Having just looked up the endoscopes on amazon, I’ve found one with a light and grabber (that work at the same time) - so really grateful for the advice Ozziedog. I’ve been keeping an identical cap in petrol for the last 24hrs and it hasn’t softened at all, but still a good idea to extract. I’ll try to vid or picture my progress for everyone’s amusement Cheers, Phil. PS if you’ve got a link to your endoscopes, send it through, so I can buy off a late bayer
If you have android or access to an android phone or a surface or similar, they are peanuts to buy, less than twenty quid and they`ll plug straight into your device, download a free app and you`re good to go in less than ten minutes. IOS won`t work with the direct ones although some claim they will , but they can`t, but it can be done with a portable wi fi station. So if you can access an android device, you can wait for it to arrive whilst keeping an eye on your subject top in your monitoring station, if after a couple of days it goes soft, and you want it out quick then give me a shout. I don`t sell these things as a job or anything, I just happened to buy a load when I was doing a lot of surveying and things looked like taking off and we`d need quite a few and it didn`t happen. Most endoscopes you can buy will come with a little hook attachment, and a magnet attachment and a little forty five degree mirror to replicate a borascope (look sideways) like for checking in peoples wall cavities. Ozziedog,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,sneak it down your plug holes too and check your valve seats and pistons and,,,,,, and,,,,
Thanks for that Ozziedog - I’ll post how I got on. Next job ... fixing window-winder in cab - ah the joy
Best always keeping it pretty full of petrol so as not to give the cap a chance to get underneath the fuel outlet suction pipe .
Didn't know you were into vintage porn Baz ...just got rid of some 1967 Swedish push and shove ...cracking good mags . the women must be in there 80's now
Don’t waste your time, the fuel outlet pipe is raised off the base of the tank, and it ‘should’ still have a gauze filter on there, in short, it’ll be fine!
Thanks Faust, but the cap has sunk anyway, so I guess I’ll have to take the chance and drain and retrieve Cheers, Phil
Thanks Kruger, I’ve invested in a cheap endoscope and grabber to retrieve. It’s just the little kid in me, excited to play the funfair game, only this time its a bottle-top, not a unicorn Cheers, Phil
