The interminable questions begin.... So all 4 rubber seals behind the torsion arms are in good condition, they all have the correct part number for a 79 beam, but there's an odd one out! 3 are the same profile - a "u" shape I suppose you'd say, but one is stepped/recessed on one side. Does it matter? Should I replace the odd one out? Replace all of them?
Haven't decided what to do about steering pin yet, feels pretty solid to me It's very good condition but there are minor patches of very light surface rust pitting, is it ok to paint straight over it , (either rustoleum or rattle can primer then black) Or should I give it a coat of that jenolite or equivalent first??
Cool , will do seals and pin! Nice and light now it's stripped asweel , I'd been lifting it around by myself while it was still fully built, bit of a lift!!! What about the painting, worth doing a coat of rust eater first or is light surface marking nothing to worry about?
Blimey! Knowing how dirty it was before, I'm very impressed by your cleaning skills! Top job! I would personally do a quick coat of rust eater as it doesn't take much time and it can only do good. If there was no rust it will just not react.
I did our pin a few weeks back. There’s a spring washer which needs compressing to get the top bolt in, I found a screw type C clamp was perfect for the job. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Thought I'd asked this but maybe not, the bearings for the torsion arms, I've wiped the grease off and run my finger round them and they "feel" ok, and as far as it's possible to see, they look ok, best to leave them alone or replace just because I can??
