  1. Everything looks very solid mate, should last a long time once it is completed. Keep up the good work!

We where quite surprised how little their was which needed replacing due to rotting, luckily!
We’re in no rush, bits here n there goes a long way :)

That's the right hand rear wheelarch done. Hub nut torqued up, rear right hand brakes bled, handbrake adjusted..driveshafts tightened until the motor / gearbox come out then they can be refurbished (fresh grease and the shaft painted). Oh and the laquer on the Gasburner wheel needs removing and respraying.

    Job done :D

Moving on to the right hand front wheelarch, that is equally as bad as the rear, that so called VW restorer has a lot to answer, more of his shoddy work to re do :(

Still, we sorted one out, one down, three to go!

Cheers James, I don't think it is that bad, the rusty patches are where the bare metal was dinitrol'd straight over rather than Epoxy primed then treated. Main thing is there is no rot! :)

Well, we have a small rotten patch on the end of the sill where the two rubber bungs go. Nothing serious and it looks to be localised, a straightforward repair!

Beneath the underseal, there are areas of really good og paint which we will rough up to gain adhesion when we repaint. Other areas look pebble dashed with rust spots, from stone chip I guess. These will be treated as per the rear wheelarch.

    Another box almost ticked.

Front right wheelarch had a small section of rotten steel, which was chopped away and the section behind it pumped full of Waxoyl.

new piece welded in and red oxide primered
    [IMG]

the rest of the arch cleaned up nicely and looked good, even after a coat of primer
    [IMG]

So, over easter we managed to get the arch seam sealed where it needed, stone chipped and coloured. Looks good :D

On removing the disc and hub to sort the disc backplate, spindle and arms out to clean up repaint, we found the taper roller bearing gone so that needs replacing. Whilst we are at it, we will refurbish the calipers with one of those piston, o ring and seal kits!

We've had quite a productive week this past week, got a few more bits ticked off the list.

Right hand side trailing arms and spindle derusted and primed / painted

    Brake caliper rebuild
Initially it looked like both pistons had surface rust but on closer inspection, one of the pistons had seized. A good blast of compressed air soon got the jammed one out.
Four bolts hold the two halves together
    [IMG]
Piston removed and some of the rust scale cleaned off
    [IMG]
    First coat of black applied
    [IMG]
New pistons and piston seal fitted
    [IMG]
The plan is to build them up and check for leaks from the joins before we give them a final coat of paint.
