After ordering the wrong (long) hose, I ordered the short tank filler hose from c&c as theirs was the only one that stated it was E10 rated. However it is a straight section of hose, whereas the original was curved slightly, the result is this: It’s kinked. I’m not convinced it fits properly as you can’t force the pipe far over the metal filler pipe without bending the rubber further. However all the other suppliers seem to stock only straight pipe sections too? Am I just being picky or is this not right? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
It's not right. It should have a bend in it. You may to buy the longer one and cut it down, using only the curved end piece. Although...what you've got should work. You don't have to look at it.
When filling with fuel you might find it will spew back out the filler neck ...if it does just let it fill up a bit slower....job done .
I have replaced that pipe twice and the first time it looked like that but it never had a problem. I redid it this year and I used a long pry bar to force it on further and it now does not have the kink in.
I just did this job. Like me you have the metal filler pipe with a bend at the lower end I think. The rubber part should be straight though you might have to fight with the filler cap end to get it to line up. I used hose from Demon Tweeks (57mm) I think it was, good for racing fuels though can’t remember if specifically E 10 rated.
Pull it of the metal filler pipe end Use some red rubber grease to lube the end of the rubber then put it back on the metal filler pipe sliding it up further Refasten your hose clamp so it sits straight
This is so. From the pic you can see a tide mark where it looks like the other end of the original rubber hose was set further up the metal tube.
I’ve replaced this myself and had the same issue. Like pkrboo says. I cut a v into the pipe which helped and then used a bit of talcum powder to help slip it on. Still it’s a pig of a job.
My really silly question is whether this is doable without pulling engine etc out? I do have little hands!
I’ve done it both ways - definitely doable engine in though only with a t4. You will need the firewall off.
If you have arms like Twizzle, it is theoretically possible to do it through the "paint can lid" hole. Theoretically.
