What plugs should I be using. I have basic knowledge and I'm trying to learn, so if you answer this thread with a part number and you've got time, please give an explanation for why use this plug. This is a long post, sorry, just trying to give all the facts. Many thanks in advance of your valued help ;-) I have a USA california import 1977 bay. 2.0 injection GD engine code, according to the VW birth certificate- it's the original engine. Dizzy code 0231 170 093 / 022 905 205s When I bought the bus, I'm sure it had never been serviced here in uk, so plugs were probably from when it lived in USA. The plugs in it were Bosch WR7DC Which according to justkampers website the plugs are for a T25 1.9 2.1 watercooled 1983-1992 :-0 (They are a bit longer than WR7CC) I've fitted WR7CC plugs. Which do look a bit grey, definitely not rich or burnt. I'm having issues of it getting too hot and sluggish on long runs. Short runs and when cold engine it's fine. Timing is spot on at 7.5 btdc on tick over with vac hose connected (as per the sticker in the boot lid, oldvolkshome website says for my dizzy - vac connected.) Checked with a strobe. There is a vacuum on the dizzy vac hose when the engine is reved. Oldvolkshome website also says I should use W8CC plugs (justkampers says these are for a T25 1.6 aircooled 1979-83) Haynes manual says Bosch W145 M2 , Beru 145/14/3L (now Z58), Champion N288 There's loads of talk on Samba about what plugs and brands, resistors, long reach, running hotter plugs etc. I've been googling a while trying to solve this, and all I've done is confuse myself. I have a feeling this bus may have failed the California Smog Tests and was taken off the road, and ended up in the UK. I've posted on Latebay previously, about the fuel T piece being blocked off, which, again, may have been something to do with the smog tests. Thank you ;-)
If anybody knows of a garage in West Midlands who's experienced with Type 4 injection engines, I'd be grateful to know of them, thanks.
Thanks for reply. Confused......... vw sticker on deck lid, Haynes manual, other posts on Samba and oldvolkshome say CONNECTED. Tried timing with hose on and off, strobe stays at 7.5 btdc. Tick over stays the same. Slight suction on my finger on the hose when engine is reved. my main reason for this thread is to find out what spark plugs. Thanks
I have a 77 2.0ltr FI engine in mine, I'll take a look at the plugs next time I get to see it, maybe sometime next week. Whatever are in mine are fine, runs cool and only feels old van sluggish.
Wondering why T25 plugs in it???, if it was done for a reason, maybe because they are a bit longer, and if I should fit them again.
The spark plugs should be W8CC but in the UK climate and with the absence of lead in petrol W7CC will work fine.
Not quite ... https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=NGK spark plug chart&client=safari&channel=ipad_bm&prmd=isnv&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwiQwMq8z6_VAhVMLVAKHZd0DR4Q_AUICSgB&biw=809&bih=530#imgrc=Ub9WYDc8_K3NTM: Injector ones possibly need resister ,
I to have a type 4 2.litre injection engine, from california and the same coded engine ie GD on a 1976 model which has been running for the past five years covering 6.000 miles using Bosch W8cc plugs and has been running ok. I also use injector cleanrers in the petrol on a regular basis aspecially when going on a long trip. Also has pertronix ignition.
Thank you.......... using Morris SAE30 Is that correct? Keeling54 Izzybay ........ what are oil you guys using??
Thanks Izzybay........... I tried Powerspark complete electronic dizzy kit....... ok at first then started misfiring badly at motorway speeds. Back to points and condenser....... still getting hot and sluggish. Tried Powerspark Elec ign points only kit ign in my bosch dizzy. again at motorway speed it slightly/occasionally misfired. I'm now back on points and condenser. no misfires at motorway speed but gets sluggish and hot on all journeys. Runs sweet when engine cold and for first few miles not sluggish.
