  13. It's disgraceful. May told us she was washing her hair, and Corbyn apparently had to address a rally of Bicurious Palestinian Vegans

Somehow I don't think that the absence of my vote will make any difference to the result in our constituency.

I always feel it's a shame when people don't choose to vote after so many people went through so much hardship and suffering to get the suffrage. I hadn't realised that most enlisted men fighting in WWI were not allowed to vote and it was only because so many were killed, injured and traumatised that the 1918 Representation of the People Act was passed, not only to allow (some) women the vote but also to extend the same to all men, irrespective of their financial status. In all an extra 5,000,000 men were granted the right to vote.

There's an article in the Telegraph (not my first choice newspaper but it appears I'm in a minority if the Poll is to be believed:rolleyes:), here's an an extract
'Most of the propertyless, working-class men who then suffered in the mud and were blown to shreds in some of the most gruesome carnage in human history had no right to vote.'
If you're interested, the full article
    http://www.telegraph.co.uk/men/thin...s-everyone-forgotten-about-male-suffrage.html
The author is grinding an axe over the perception that the 1918 Act was solely to give women the vote.

  20. Strangely enough I was having similar thoughts yesterday whilst sat in the sunshine, drinking beer and looking at the remains of Newark Castle. Newark was a Royalist town and subject to three sieges in the 1640s during the Civil War and I couldn't help but think if both sides would consider their losses worth it considering the state of our current politicians.

I've just got my postal vote forms and got the following choices -
Conservative - Dismantling public services but at least the candidate lives local.
Labour - Totally bankrupt the country plus no faith in JC or that prat Abbott. Candidate lives 25 mile away on other side of county.
Lib Dems - Legalise cannabis and another EU referendum. Lets have a vote until we get the answer we want. Undermines democracy and would Tax another addiction. Candidate comes from another County.
UKIP - No, just no. Candidate from another county.

With that choice I'm seriously thinking of not voting. At least it will be a considered option and not just can't be bothered. If Liz, Chas and family were standing for election, I would vote for them.
