Wouldnt do another, Its a hard slog and not really sure yet if its been worth all the effort.. First outing, spring 2017, fingers crossed ... Might make it under its own steam to the MOT station... Still loads of things to do and loads of cash needing spent for fridge, electric hook up stuff , Hob, sink, roof bellows, curtains, etc etc.. Money Pit is an understatement... Thankfully its been spread over 8 years, so far roughly £3k per year.. ZERO labour costs, have no idea what its worth so long as it brings a smile to my miserable face when its done it will hopefully see plenty use and abuse..

Was it the same van you were looking at ? Im based near Forfar in Scotland, I dont have a brother in law called Andy, but the guy who owns the place is called Andy, but it was the mucker who works there as the painter that sprayed it, same van ? It was painted around March /April this year... I put it in so I could move forward a bit with it and my shed was pretty manky after all the other work done in there..

Thanks for your comments, there are a few flaws, most of them can be ironed out over time, plus still a fair bit to do. Haven't had it running yet, in fact, the warranty on the motor has just about expired , I just dropped it in last week. Roof cap along with bumpers went to my buddies last week to be painted. There is no firm schedule except to say Spring 2017 would be good ..

Floor was laid from the left over Amtico from having the hall done, took a while to work out a pattern but in the end settled for the same pattern as the hall ...

The dash top is off white leather which I know is a mistake as it will reflect off the screen, but will make up a dash protector in a dark colour to lay over it when in use .. looks good but totally impractical..

Got the units made up a few years back, unfortunately having sat for a while they got a little mouldy on the untreated ply and the doors and drawers wouldn't open as they ere all really tight in there holes. Had to strip it all down shave off a wee bit here and there and reassemble it. Seems to be OK now ..

Steering wheel was an extravagance off ebay and half the price of the other suppliers.

Loads of insulation and sound deadening ..

looks very nice; door cards suit the body colour really well! Interior looks nice too, who made it?

Looking forward to seeing the bus fully done :D

Wiring more or less complete but some worries, some circuits were missing from the new loom, brake switch, reverse, fuel sender, headlights, sidelights, add to that the wiper motor had different wiring to that provided in the new loom plus a few other wee bits and bobs, some of the wire colour codes are different from the VW spec but you don't find that out until you've blew your top.. I think its pretty much done, doesn't matter how hard you try, the fuse box box always ends up looking like a rats nest.

Leisure electrics were easy by comparison, bought a really good kit off ebay with a durite split charge relay and all the correct size wire, terminals, shrink tube , clips and ties, fuses, for both batteries and \ 12 v 6 fuse fuse box and assorted fuses for the 12V leisure system. and a six gang earth bus .. pretty comprehensive and worth the cost just to save the hassle of trying to locate all the individual components ..

Made a mistake of using individual LEDs as the lighting system.. flush mount under the overhead locker 20 in all 10 white and 10 blue through a double switch. they work well but could do with more light to the the floor area so more thought required . Im trying to keep the lights hidden, so installed those strip leds under the ledge on the worktop.. they worked well but lasted 5 mins.. I bought cheepies off ebay but the printed circuit was on a paper backing and it wasnt up to the job,, these were basically throw away "party lights" now in the bin... another £7 wasted .. :(

Recharging the leisure battery is down to a Durite 10 amp smart charger. fits a treat, really compact, incorporates a battery charge indicator.. I wired it into the 12 circuit so no charging wires and crok clips running to the battery . Wired it to the earth bus and the live feed to the leisure fuse box .. nice n tidy. even surprised myself ..

  16. Fantastic, great to see a light at the end of the tunnel. You'll have many happy years ahead as you've done the job properly.

  17. Van is looking great! really like the idea of the side cupboards.

I put leds into mine but was told I needed a thing to control the voltage (driver or controller) apparently without then they can burnt out due to thermal run away ( I know nothing about this but put the controller things in just encase)

Pleased you got the leisure electrics sorted as I recall you were in a bit of a quandary as to what to do.
    Sounds like a neat solution...pics please :D

Yup, was down to the good advice received from you chaps that the layout took shape with separate components and it come out really neat and tidy,

Interesting info re the single LEDs ... whats the driver or controler and where can I get one ? might have to wire one in as well ..

    Speak to Bedazzled
It's been a year or 2 since I had dealings with them & the web site looks a little 'dated' but Richard knows his stuff.
He's specialised in the boat market for years & remember we all live off DC so have to have products that do the job. Second rate stuff in this market (marine) soon falls by the wayside!
