Just a quick pre drop question, is it better to drain the oil before engine removal? Suppose it'll be less messy and easier? Everything disconnected, ready to try jacking up with my puny jack and some flattish stones
Wood is better than stones as stones can break in 2, wood tends not to. Yeah oil out otherwise you will need to lift it up to get a tub under after
I would drain the oil out first and maybe you should get a decent jack and some wood blocks and planks for support. Definitely not stones or bricks which have a habit of crumbling suddenly. Do it safely.
It's ok I've built a very sturdy Lego tower that should hold it up . Kids aren't happy they're Lego is getting oily but hey. I paid for it.
Oil out first - otherwise the engine will tip over when you try and take it out on the slant, and the oil will make a big puddle and the neighbours will get grumpy with you. Plus its a extra tiny bit of weight you won't have to lug around with the engine when its out. I found a piece of wood between jack and engine made it much much worse - the wood was trying to fall off the jack, and the engine off the wood. I reckon its either proper wooden cradle type affair, or just the jack, anything else in between is worse. I've always dropped engine first, then jacked up enough to let it out. means you're working low down when releasing the engine and you don't end up putting it up higher / lower than needed. You may also find due to road camber you can pop the rear wheel that is away from the kerb off and jack up that side only, and draw the engine out sideways with eth fan coming out between rear brake drum and the back of the arch.
How did hubby go from the Lego tower picture to this one? Did he make the small wombats lift a corner each while he removed the tower and then pulled the engine back?
