Hi guys - I need to get my van MOT'd - does anyone know if rusty/slightly crumbly jacking points would be an MOT failure - I am going to get them done but can't afford it this month - spent every penny on a new engine!
The bent cill will be ok ,the jacking points are down to the tester... When you have had a bay for a long time you discover the best testing stations ,of course the french ones are the best been independant and not doing any repairs themselves.... Bon courage...
A number of years ago i had the same issue i drove home, cut them off and took it back. They passed it.
I've got a similar issue. 3 years ago Van passed mot, but advised slight corrosion on jacking point. Next year I went back to my old school vw mechanic for the next mot, I asked him to sort the jacking point he told me it was fine. It passed the next 2 mots without being mentioned. This year he can't do my mot, so I went back to the other mechanic, who remembers the jacking point issue and told me it will probably fail. Jacking points are not bloody structural and shouldn't fail, but depends on mot tester. I want to get my slight corrosion issue sorted, but can't get in anywhere decent before this mot and don't want to be unable to use the van for something that isn't even safety related. I'm going to take it to an mot place that understands old vehicles.
I always give my bus to my vw guy who doesn't do mot' s himself but takes it to friendly garages. Last 3 years *******ed through with no advisories. (I've had a bit of welding done in prep as I do most years) this year they aborted the mot as it failed on loads of welding. Tester wrote a list out which included the outriggers and jacking points on one side. I was a bit nobbed off as one bit of welding that got picked up was right next to a bit my welder did last week and he failed to mention the hole
Yep he has it at the mo, although he says he won't be able to do the work until maybe the end of next week. Book yours in now if I were you.
Do you know if he still uses Staple Hill Motors? As I'll be unemployed by then, I might as well take it up myself, it'll keep me out of the pub!
No he uses one in Whitchurch now, I think staple hill changed their testers Although last year Whitchurch passed my bus with no advisories. This year one of the things they failed my bus on was one of my inner seals has been spot welded and not seamed. Yet I had the seal on the bus when it passed last year
Is that the place on the main road opposite the beefeater type pub? If so that's where I get my mini done so I might pop in and see them.
Not sure to be honest, there can't be many garages in Whitchurch, I don't have last years mot on me to check, but it definately has Whitchurch in the garage name.
I'll speak to Martin Monday and see if he's got time to do it. If not I'll take it over; they do a decent breakfast in that pub while you wait!
Jacking points are not bloody structural and shouldn't fail, but depends on mot tester. jacking points are structrual
I'm not very technical, but a good few people whose opinion I trust have told me that corrosion on Jacking points should not be an mot failure, as jacking points are not structual
I'm no MOT man but surely jacking points are structural by design..... No idea if they should be an MOT failure though.
