Zombie apocalypse....what modifications will my van need?

  1. I think I've been watching too much of The Walking Dead on telly. ::)

Anyhoo......I reckon the VW camper is the perfect survival vehicle.....but what modifications does the van need to be perfect........you have to be prepared you know! :) ::) ;D

    1. suspension lift - for driving over zombies
    2. belly pans to stop zombies hanging on
    3. wire mesh on the windows (or get a panel van )
    4. cupboards filled with supplies.

What else am I going to need (besides therapy ;) )

  2. Sunroof for standing through with shotgun or crossbow

PS if you ever watch the walking dead on FX and have a smart phone get the App its very funny predicting how many zombies will be killed and the weapons used (indicator stalk was one option for an entire series) :)

  3. Reinforce the inside of your windows with sticky backed plastic sheeting to slow their progress as the break through.
Add some door hooks to the rear door so you can open it slightly - just enough to fire from without exposing yourself as a target.
Cover the exterior with vaseline to stop them getting a grip. (that's Mrs Mabels idea)

  4. Roo Bars for extra Raming protection

Gerry cans for carrying lots of extra fuel (long distances between filling stations, somtimes maybe even 30 miles :) )

  5. A turbo'd watercooled engine so you can get the hell out of dodge without road side repairs!!

    Spinning blades on your wheels

Plenty of ammo - remember head shots only

Auto opening doors on a remote for when your running for your safe haven/zombie killing machine

Bull bars for the rear for double run-over effect

Para on board for the essential survival skills

  6. Awesome thread karma dude

  7. Water cooled common rail derv engine to give you more chance of refuel whilst on the run

You can run on kerosene, veg oil forcourt derv and red derv liberated from farms

On board water supply with built in water filtration for filling up from suspected infected water supplies

2 of each type of gas regulator so you can collect and use a variety of gas bottles found whilst your bugging out

Ham radio so you can keep an update of the zombie problems world wide and converse with other zombie killers

    love this thread!
i would want roof mounted 50.cal machine gun, with a syncro conversion

  9. T25 engine hatch, To gain most access to repair without getting out of the van.

50 cal mounted to the roof.

Snow tyres as the weather is soooo unpredictable!!

    ;D

  10. Cool ideas! I reckon we can all be ready when the zombies turn up then! ;)

Obviously we are going to need to band together - safety in numbers and all that. Sounds like a good excuse for a convoy! Like Run To The Sun.......but with zombies! ;D

Not sure whether this guy has got the right idea though?

Surely the zombies are gonna break those leaded windows??

  11. i've had a sleep on this - you can fill the sink with petrol and let it drain through the plug spilling out underneath the van (whilst on the move slowly) thus allowing you to create a wall of flame behind the van without leaving its safety.

Also probably need to strip all the door cards out so you can store more ammunition and arrows etc in the cavities.

  14. ... I do actually justify many of my bus purchases, well not just bus ones actually, using the argument "when the Zombie apocalypse comes ..."

It's justified the purchase of my CB Radio (no mobile phone net of course) and also my .22 air rifle (best I can do without a license).

    It's going to happen!

  15. I think the main thing you need to think about is the windows and making sure that you always have exit routes.

The main thing you will notice from watching TWD is that zombies surround the vehicles and hang around trying to get in. So with that in mind the first two things you need are

    i) bullet proof windows
ii) an electric surge protector that electrocutes any zombies touching the van

You also need to make sure that you can move them out the way and drive off so you need

iii) bull bars and good bumpers

When you eventually park up for the night you want to make sure that you have a look out - i think the best roof would be a Rivera with a sniper window

iv) modify the pop top so that you can keep watch and have a sniper mount fitted.

You may often be out on the road for days so you need to think of supplies and being able to survive.
So internally you need to make sure that you have

    v) good (fresh) water - you need some kind of capture hole on the roof which pours into the water tank when it rains.
vi) good supplies cupboard - filled with rice / pasta and other dries foods

I also think you would need some of the following too:
vii) camo coloured paint on the outside
viii) good leisure batteries and solar roof panels

The main thing to remember about zombies is that they are relentless ... they will keep scraping away and trying to attack you, so it might be a good idea to actually paint the bus in that non stick / no climbing paint so that they cant get onto the roof.

ix) paint the bus in non stick paint

I think for me the last thing is having communication - as people have said -

    X) CB radio so you can keep in contact with fellow survivors.

The other thing I thought of is how you park up ... you need to make a barrier - yet all be able to leave in an emergency.
So you could carefully park in a square - so that the sliding doors (fitted with knives on the edges) all open to the middle and then it blocks the zombies on the outside.

Because you have slip proof paint on the vans - they cant get into the middle. but if you need to you can get in the vans - start up and drive off ... obviously you could sniper a few first!

    :)

  16. Are we talking stuck in the UK or USA?

Different countries would need different setups

  17. Great thread!

Trailer tank full of petrol plumbed into three lawn sprinklers on the roof with igniters on each one. Fire up the pump and bring on the rain!
Last ditch apocolypse option, trailer demount and remote ignite to cover your getaway!

BTW T2 has got to be the last option for post apocalypse survival. Got to be a unimog, something tall that has to be climbed, definitely a 4x4 at the very least!
    Or
just dress as a zombie and cycle round on a mountain bike, it's fast enough!

    Cheers

  18. This should solve the zombie problems. They aren't gonna be able to climb into it thats for sure.

  19. How about a supply of skimpy nics and floppy blouses, along with a batch of unreliable torches, just for that quick change if you have to go into a dark alley, or upstairs in an abandoned house on your own..........and you watch to much tv

  20. Silver

    Silver Needs points/will pay!

You need a gas fridge....nobody likes warm beer......it just rude to serve it warm, even to Zombies. Some extra folding chairs would be handy. :)
