When a compressed gas expands, it loses all the energy that was used to compress it and in doing so, gets very cold. When you let off a CO2 fire extinguisher, you get a whitish smoke which is solid CO2 and that is at -44°C or less. Same principle with propane or butane.

I have a pushfit, mid hose on mine so i can just unplug the whole thing and spin the regulator in and off. Makes life easier!
