  1. todays jobs on my build was to check distributor drive clearance which is not great as the holding bracket does not sit flush so i am getting about 1.5mm so either another bracket needed or thicker shims but then went to check the bearing before i build up the crank so new bearings out and i dont know if to use them or try and get them replaced 20170216_160554.jpg
any thoughts as they have been in the garage for a couple of weeks now

Undo the bolt on the clamp and flatten it out .. and do not do it up as tightly next time..

Your OG clamp will still be straighter than an EMPI chrome one where the fixing part needed bending to get the clamp sitting on the top of the engine.

The drive dog on the distributor should be pushing the distributor drive into the engine with a spring under it. And the shoulder of the distributor should be touching the engine block. If it sits too high the drive dog will get rounded and eventually it will sit happily in the slot 180 degrees out as well as the right way round.

  3. Unfortunately the hold down bracket is an aftermarket affair and holds it off the case. Bit of beating and opening out the hole might help...

  4. Those clamps are renound for bending
You can buy billet ones that are stronger

  5. Clamp it in a vice and squash it flat again. They don't need to be done up really tight to clamp the dissy.

  6. Any thought on the bearing. ...

  7. What is the mark, corrosion? Are these your old bearings?

I wouldn't use that, it looks like the bearing surface has been marked. They should be identical all the way around the inner radius, if more of the surface "comes away" it'll be game over IMO

Good service but not more than should be expected. Who is the supplier and bearing manufacturer?

  13. Ive always assumed that silver coating on the bearings was just a protective coat, it may also have some minor initial run in benefits so probably fine, but with bearings inexpensive compared to full engine rebuilds I'd have swapped it too.

  14. they came from gsf/veewee and made by silverline

  15. I know what your saying but was worried it may be a problem but as new out of the box really shouldn't be marked at all:thumbsup:
