Worried about Camping this Year

Discussion in 'General Discussion' started by PIE, Feb 8, 2021.

    • outdoor exercise. This should be done locally wherever possible, but you can travel a short distance within your area to do so if necessary (for example, to access an open space)

  1. and thats the bullsh8t clause that everyones using to break the rules and justify it.

  5. The short distance travel is for people living in inner cities with no other immediate space available to them. I wonder how many people are travelling to climb and sail at locations of their preference, rather than the outside space directly around the place they live?

Can't imaging those climbers live in a one bedroom flat in Moss Side......

Or it's the clause that allows people out to exercise while encouraging them to an open space to do so?

How would you have organised this aspect if you were conjuring up a set of very simple rules for outdoor exercise?

  7. Its a clause people are clearly abusing. As for what i would do its not up to me is it. I follow the rules and dont constantly look for ways of stretching them to either be a clever clot or because I'm special !

Honestly, once in one's car, does it really make any difference if you drive 3 miles or 40? If for example the ice fall climbers had been (I have no idea) local and driven 2 miles to the car park rather than 40 what's the real difference? Or is this that old left wing thing that everything can be solved with rules.

  9. 3 miles or 40, or 100, or a bit more .....Its not my choice Steve. Those are the rules which have been put in place by those in authority in an attempt to provide generalised rules to control the contact between individuals during a deadly pandemic. They are being interpreted by individuals to suit themselves. My comments above about the walkers. They were wild camping and got into difficulty miles from home and the individual injured has life changing injuries from a 500 foot fall I believe. That could have happened any time but now we've got someone in intensive care entirely due to their stupidity/carelessness/selfishness.

Its not a dick swinging competition or about my political leanings. the facts speak for themselves. If you don't agree with the rules then fine. Look to speak to your MP, write to Boris. Go out and break them if you wish to protest but reap the consequences. Our society works around the notion of working towards a greater good whereas libertarians like yourself justify their selfishness by putting forward that they are simply asserting their rights as a free person with self determination... great but its at someone else's expense isn't it! Question authority, question the norm, Anarchy kind of doesn't work in the current situation really.

  10. That's probably one of the justification points for the climbers, the sailors, the grouse shooters, the Caribbean holidaymakers (add to endless list as applicable) etc make when they decide its ok to do what suits them..................

  11. I get that people want to live a better life but come back and criticise me for my views when you've sat at in ITU and watched a family member die of Covid or laid awake at night waiting for a call to tell you their life has ended. When you've arranged the funeral and been to that sad sombre excuse of an event to commemorate or appreciate a life ended prematurely.

Then tell me its worth it. Hopefully lockdown will ease or end when its safe to do so and we wont be having this discussion but whatever follows it will be abused even more.

If that's his head shape the covid is the least of his worries.
    ;)

  13. I suppose what we deem to be reasonable is shaped by our own experiences, values and circumstances. Good luck.

The previous two pages are why I said it would be fun! :)

My initial point was that @Dicky called out the local paper for not reporting that the climbers were breaking the rules.
I asked for clarification which rules had been broken.
I still am yet to see evidence of those rules being broken.

I do not suggest that what they did was sensible, or even to be advised, because of risk to themselves and others etc in an accident.

Also, please note that @nell#2 mentions they 'have cut way back on road cycling and narly mountain bike rides'.
Again, this is not a dig at anyone, but surely they should have cut out completely narly mountain bike rides?

The rules are the farce in all of this, we've known it from the start.

Don't forget Boris, our own glorious leader, travelled from No 10 to Victoria park in East London for a cycle, a distance of 7 miles.
He and his advisors had to explain that because they had specified no maximum distance on the amount of travel to get to your exercise area, no rules were broken.

Not usually at all. It was just that I am as frustrated as everyone else with the lack of clarity etc. Chris was very clear in his opinion that the climbers had broken the rules, I do not share that view.
Also, I meant to reply after Chris put up another quote just saying that I don’t agree with them, but just asking for clarity.
I really don’t think ice climbing is the best idea at the mo but I can’t see why they can’t (note I don’t say shouldn’t).
I didn’t reply because I ‘may’ have fallen asleep on the sofa and then had a very busy day at work.
So, not Marmite stirring but rather playing devil’s advocate.
@Dicky is being very responsible (I mean this), and I was pointing out that people always stretch the rules to their benefit. If things are not specifically forbidden, people will try to do them.

  17. I'm not here to provide incontrovertible evidence M'lud! But the balance of probabilities are that the rules (the Law) weren't being followed.

  18. we can agree to differ if you like but it seems cut and dried to me!
