If all it really needs is new bushes then thats a fairly straightforward job.

And the refurb kits are about £30-40. A small but working ultrasonic cleaner bath was sold by Lidl last year (does 50% of a carb at a time) . I paid £16 for one.

A gallon of carb cleaner is about £12 in GSF, you can chuck the carbs in it after stripping them down and after some soaking give them an ultrasonic bath in warm water/detergent solution.

Its as always a matter of your DIY time versus a pro at £50 an hour. So £135 is 1 to 2 hours of work and £35 parts, and some peace of mind, or DIY, learn how to do it.

  4. Perhaps a kindly gentleman like yourself could do it for him for £100 on your kitchen table

  6. I got that model off eBay for £100 to £120, I forget exactly....i've already used it to do 2 pairs of carbs...so any more are free!!!

1 kettle of cold water and 2 of boiling water, plus a good dollop of washing up liquid, then set it to 70degs and run it for 2 sessions of 30mins....job's a good'un :)

  14. I have the 6lt version. Its is good for 1 weber IDF. The smaller one might do an ICT or other single barrel carb.

Check the advertised capacity measurements, but take off about a 1-2 CMs to account for the basket that holds the items being cleaned.

I've always done my own and never felt the need for any special cleaning kit. Just sit the dismantled carb in a carb cleaner solution overnight and blow it through with and airline. reassemble using a good carb rebuild kit ( actually any kit is usually good so long as the rubber O rings are good quality ) The first one I did I soaked in thinners overnight. It worked, but proper carb cleaner fluids are better.

Follow this thread, it's easy if you replace the spindle bushes.

  17. So I’ve had a quote of £395 for both carbs to be done . But at present there is a long turn around time! I think I’ll wait till end off summer /autumn then send them off , gives me more time to save up . Thanks for the help guys

  18. I posed the exact same question to them... 10 week turn around time... I've paid £200 extra and bought some brand new ones. Getting them fitted this week.

  19. Just to follow this up... Jared at VDub Revival fitted a new Dellorto replacement for me yesterday and I have to say, it’s like a new bus. I never thought I’d say this, but it almost feels nippy!!
