  1. My camper has been off the road for around 8 years (I may well be underestimating this). I have previously had it restored, or at least the body and underside. When it was last done it was sprayed and looked great but I never really fell in love with it because I never got the engine and running gear set up as I should have meaning it was a dog to drive and broke down almost each trip.....not fun with wife and young kids on the way to holiday. For this reasons it got parked up after being recovered home following a week in the Dales.
About 4 1/2 years ago I got the urge to get it up and running again but this time I was going to get it running and rolling as I wanted it...
It has been booked in at garages (2 different garages as the first refused to do the chassis leg replacement) for the work ever since, there have been so many issues mostly totally unrelated to the bus that have caused stagnation of the restoration work...so many problems and so much stress from my wife who (like me) cannot believe that it has taken so long....a horrible experience, it's hard to believe that I haven't given up on it before now.

It has now had replacement chassis legs, deformation inner and outer, beam, full front arches and all of these are tacked in at the least, some are complete.

I am finally smiling again as having seen no progress for over a year last week I called in and the deformation panels were in place....I had just about got to the point when I was going to move it yet again, having lost faith that it would ever be worked on. This is a major step forward.

There is still plenty of work to be done on my bus but it is now back inside and appears to be on their radar finally....I may get to go to Bearded Theory one of these years in it yet (it was meant to be ready for the festival 3 years ago, the first year we ended up hiring a camper, the second we purchased a cheap old caravan, given that the festival is in May it looks as though this year we will be in the caravan again :-(

But as I said I am smiling, the work has re-started.....there is a distant light at the end of this very long tunnel. I am happy :)

If progress continues at a reasonable pace I'll maintain this thread to keep you all informed....if not then I'll drift away back into my depression.

  4. On the plus side being a RHD west you she has increased massively in value ...not that that matters but I'm surprised you have been messed around by so many for so long ...good for you for sticking with it.....I'm not a fan of green .....it has to be your choice.. Look in the show us your Westy thread

  5. There aren't many vehicles that would have the loyalty and funds bestowed upon them as our VW's! Good luck with your plans, it sounds like the time has come to get her sorted.
