Wiper arms

  1. I’m looking to buy a new set of wiper arms
Is there a best quality available anywhere or are they all the same wherever you buy them from?

No, they're not all the same, some are narrower than others so the blade is a bit loose on the arm. The last one I bought from Serial Kombi was fine but one from Heritage a few years earlier wasn't, a bit pot luck I suppose. I'd avoid JK. :)

Did you buy shiny ones or the black ones?

I was thinking about wiper arms today too as I noticed mine are starting to rust. Are the silver ones just silver colour (ie will rust too) or summat that is better protected?

If you pay about £90 Each you can get stainless steel from C&C Otherwise the £22 ones from GSF all seem to work OK and rust as you go unless you bother to paint them properly . Provided you torque them up properly (quite tight) they bite onto the splines of the wiper spindles and dont slip.

You can get black, silver or stainless steel. Black and silver are around £20, SS £100

I just tried some cheap wiper blades from our local motor factors (MAS in Sholing) , hoping to support them with my custom, but they do seem to have a habit of selling even worse stuff than eBay. Their wet and dry sandpaper turns to paste if you make it wet ...

Compared with the Bosch blades from Halfords that were not much more expensive - Bosch have stainless steel springs behind the rubber. The cheap ones rusted. The cheap rubber blades developed a sort of crusty rough edge and the passenger blade gave up after a couple of months.

If you can find a pair of original blades they are worth having as they had extra hinge bits to cope with the curve of the screen then you just change the rubber

  14. Can I just buy Bosch ones and take the rubber out?

Yes but they’ll scratch the screen

  17. I bought a pair of these from the joke shop. They're useless, don't even fit on the spindles
