  1. Just realised i did some tweaking on the carbs/ jetting that i'd covered in this separate thread here: AFR carb tuning - what should i be aiming for? | The Late Bay

Summary of that (so i don't forget what i've got i'm writing it in my main build thread here) is that my ICTs now have:

    145 mains, 160 airs, 55 idles, 175 needles, f6 emulsions
and timed at 31 degrees (vacuum off, max advance) i get the follow showing on my AFR gauge:

WOT: 12.8-13.2 so bang on the nose of what i was aiming for.
    65mph light throttle on a flat road, hovers around 14.5 - 15.

Rob, how do you find/feel the difference between your previous set up of main jet 155, air 175, and your new set up above? I have the former set up.
    Cheers

  3. best it’s ever been. It’s still not a rocket ship but feel stronger on the hills and zips along nicely on the flat with very little throttle.

investing in the o2 sensor thing was def worthwhile, without that you’re just guessing

Nice day for doing some work on the bus, swapped my old (modified) type 4 Pacesetter for the custom twin centre exit stainless system I’ve had sat in the garage for the past year.

I had the pacesetter ceramic coated before I fitted it 5 (?) years ago - still looks great so the coating was a good idea

I also fitted the missing heat shield that is meant to be there between the silencer and the motor. Mine’s never had one so good to sort this out, also good to finally understand what was missing from the empty mounting holes in the tin :)

not test driven yet, but a brief run up to check for rattles /leaks and it sounds good :)

  5. one of several little fettling jobs this weekend, fitted those pesky rubber gasket things that keep the heat riser tubes from rattling against the cooling tin (and i guess they also help seal the engine bay.

  7. Getting out and about with the bus in the nice weather. I did "classics at the clubhouse" event last weekend - fab collection of cars and a great venue. Pics on my instagram if anyone's interested (link in my sig).

Also taking the boy and a bunch of his mates out for b'day celebrations at the weekend - its the only vehicle we have that can take 5 passengers + a driver :)

    .. then stonor on sunday.

Really pleased with how the bus is driving now with the jetting tweaks i've made. The new exhaust is a *tad* noisier than the pacesetter - i'm fine with it but other family members (ahem) may not agree - we'll see. I'm hoping with some miles on it the new exhaust will quieten down a bit as it gets sooty on the inside.

The silver polished stainless is also starting to look a bit "golden" as it gets some heat cycles through it.

You should have pop the bay in the show… it was underrepresented by late bays!

  9. Selling my stainless twin centre exit exhaust if anyone's interested?

Its in the parts for sale section. FOR SALE - Custom Stainless exhaust- Type 4, triangle flanges | The Late Bay

I love the way this looks but if i'm honest i prefer the quieter system. Originally thought i'd look to get the stainless one modified to make it quieter but tbh that's probably going to cost as much as having a new one made, so makes sense to pop it in the "for sale" section and let someone else have it.

  10. I’ve got an Empi Marmite box on mine. How loud is this? Much louder?

  11. i had an empi - they really are trash unfortunately.

just replied on the for sale thread

  12. not posted on this thread much recently.. but here's some updates

painted the new "extra" silencer box with vht so it sort of matches the rest of the (ceramic coated) pacesetter. the extra box makes the exhaust much quieter so longer trips are a bit less noisy/ tiring.

New leisure battery 'cos the old one died. Would have liked to go for something more powerful but tbh this little one is really all we need, and anything bigger would be a pain to fit in the space. The leisure battery only powers the interior lights, radio, a couple of usb chargers for phones etc and i have a cigaretter lighter type power outlet so i could plug in our elec cool box if needed (i rarely bother tbh as it doesn't make much difference) so we don't really need a massive battery.

Adjusted the steering box and checked/ topped up the fluid as the outside of the case looked "moist". Didn't actually need much so i don't think theres much of a leak (maybe hot weather had something to do with it?). The access plate at the base of the column had seized screws so had to drill those out and fit some new ones:

  15. Mk2 bump stops. Pretty sure these are going to be the final version… test drive later once the air temperature outside falls below “scorchio”

  17. Back to work today after two weeks off - been up to Snowdonia for a week (just me and the two kids), then back home for just one night before heading down to Devon for a week + wife and dog. Lots of fun.

We've camped, hiked, surfed, canoed, swam in the sea, did the zip wire thing in the slate mine, saw dolphins, toasted marshmellows on open fires, rode our bikes, flew model aeroplanes.. lots of adventures.

I'm gradually posting up some of the better pics on my instagram thingy, but heres a few snaps.
