Berkhamsted some time in 1978 in my mates Morris Marina, no tax so we borrowed the tax disc from his mums 2CV6 and made it damp to hide the reg number. Passed my bike test at the same place in 1977.

    You mean ‘experienced’ :)
Actually, before Unigate’s three wheeled electric floats I remember our milk being delivered by Brown and Harrisons – by horse drawn floats. This is Benny Hill opening a housing estate or something but it’s a B&H milk float.

Bike ( well scooter) test 1970 in Rotherham...it was literally just around the block with the examiner jumping out at some point.
Car test 1972 again in Rotherham, a BSM Escort after 6 lessons....as I recall, my Birthday present was 6 lessons and test for £25.
    Both passed 1st time.

  13. My grandpa retired to the IOW in 1960 and hadn’t driven since the war, so had to take a test. He was dreadful, but passed. In those days there no traffic lights on the IOW, and not many cars either.

I used to live next door to the test centre at Fox Hill. Always had people driving very slowly past the house, either taking the test or getting the lay of the land. I hope they didn't make you do a hill start actually on Fox Hill, that would have been fun.

Sat mine in West Wickham in my mother's dark blue Golf. Failed first time, can't remember why, passed second. I remember thinking how much my light grey shirt showed up the buckets of sweat that mysteriously appeared during the test. The examiner said I could open a window if it would help.

  16. I took mine in Kidderminster too, in a Ford Fiesta! Pulled away from stationary in second gear at the roundabout just above Victoria Carpets but I got away with it because I didn't stall...

Kings Heath/Maypole, Birmingham 2nd time in 1995. First person to take my test in my house. Dad or brother never drove and mum passed her automatic when she was 60 but only drove for a few months.

I remember being stuck behind a bus in traffic for most of my test, there were really bad road works and it was afternoon school run too. Drove an Ibiza.
