What's wrong with Subaru engines in bay window campers

  1. t'aint right t'aint proper!

  2. Is this more or less or the same amount of wrong for those who don't like Subaru - 2.8L Chevy V6 in a bay (the blokes clearly a nutter)

Or how about a 911 engine one (I know, this one is a split) - aircooled still?

Is it original is okay, and everything else is wrong, or is there a sliding scale?

Nope, it's "if they do it it's fine, if someone else does it it's bad".

    So why start it then?

You'll recall, I wasn't on this thread until you called me out.

You'll also recall, I think slot mags look crap on a bay....I don't however spend my time trying to wind people up who plainly love them.

Go touting for attention the act like a weapon when it doesn't go to plan.....good luck with that.

  7. Love to see the engineering involved in some of these transplants. :) Whether or not it breaches a sort of unwritten ethical code doesn't bother me.

  8. Yes I'll agree with that moony
But there was nothing nasty in what I
Said it's just a bit of banter
But as usual you got all fierce :)

  11. where does one find this steering thingy you talk of ... I have pegs under the seat for hanging up washing

  12. Can I ask what a Subaru engine is like in a bay?
Is there someone who'll let me have a go in theirs - just a couple of motorway junctions and a hill?

I'm toying with the idea, but am concerned that a 16 valve engine is going to be too revvy & cammy to work well in a bay
which was designed for an absolute plodder of a torquey, slow revving engine.
I also have concerns about the spares situation in a decade or so, I am from the olden days and clearly remember folk stuffing beetles
with flat fours from Alfa Suds. Lovely revvy, short (59mm) stroke little motor, brill for a beetle sprint, these were also cheap and
plentiful back in the day. But you try getting parts for them 30 years on...

Slot mags now you are talking, for Christmas my wife bought me an annual subscription to "one arm bandit monthly " and I've got every copy of "pub slot machines"

  15. If you can make it to a techenders I'm sure you'll find someone who will take you for a spin in a Scooby.

You'll probably also be able to see some other possibilities for increased power and torque and discuss the pros and cons with various owners.

I went down the air cooled increased stroke 2110cc T1 route, before joining the forum. I'll happily give you my take on pros and cons

  16. Do Subaru engines in bays swerve the omission test
    At MOT
Could this be how many are come by
Having failed when they were in the original vehicle
But then a half worn out Subaru
Doesn't pollute any more than a Cooley
    I suppose
