  2. So how heavy is my Cross over?

diesel aren't those engines on the way out

  3. i don't know it will say on your logbook would be interesting to see if this statement is true?
i can post later the weight of mine

  4. Hey Wilf
Are you going to upgrade your brakes
To cope with your new racing engine?
And I take it you still running the worm and peg steering box:)

  5. I think that the guy has a youtube channel, electric "samba"[welded in roof cuts]. A guy in Ireland switched to electric in a BMW 840 and it really shifts.

There is a lot of drag racers in the US switching because of the flat torque curve instantly available.

Battery cost, power density and thermal stability are the things that need to be addressed. Switching to an electric motor should improve performance and remove many of the achilles heels of a bay - although still probably need the crappy cv boots!!

  6. Not sure who this Wilf is but I'll answer just in case he/she doesn't

I'm pleased that your pleased with your aircooley and will never change it. so the rest off your bus is 100% original?

I'm not getting a 'racing' engine, the reason is I am fed up with my air-cooled is despite the money that I chuck at it the lack of reliability, difficulty in finding someone to work on it, the noise, yes the noise, if I could find someone to build me a better one in a short time I would have gone that route. I just want to enjoy my bus nowt wrong with that. Oh and I should get better fuel consumption (fingers crossed).

  7. read that - thanks for the link - interesting. pretty much sums it up. for me electric will be a non starter until the range and re-charge time is on a par with fossil fuels. although *most* journeys are short distances you'd be nuts to get one 'cos everybody at some point needs do do a long drive (maybe as second car it would work but even so, they're expensive for what they are).

I'm trying to work out who you are..
Whatever, it sounds like you know sod all about sod all so maybe stop with the trolling?

@Pickles, I hope you've got bigger reasons than the noise or you're going to be sorely disappointed. Quiet they are not.

  9. I'm really doing it for the reliability ... hopefully your not going to ******* on my chips with that one as well

Monkeymanwestybike lost his login and for a while was Pickle .... at least I think he was (and not to be confused with me)

They certainly seem reliable so I doubt you'll be disappointed there. They're OK noise wise most of the time but certainly not quiet. They bloody roar at full chat.

His IP address tells of multiple user-names, lets put it that way.

It's a forum, not the nuclear deterrent you plum.

I'm assuming you are wanting to bait me into a spat.

That's reassuring as you truly are a Masterbaiter.

  13. Yes I did have a different username
    That is correct
You would of thought after nearly 25 years of ownership I would of learned something

    Enlighten us then:
What are the issues with the steering and brakes that you seem so concerned with?

  15. I've got a 1700 for sale if your interested ... take your bus back in time.

    what is full chat?

They reckon that hydrogen power will be the future ...don't know how it all works but makes interesting reading .
Going back to electric power in buses ...they are so quiet when going , you could always get a type 4 sound simulator as part of a package edition .
I suppose what ever automotive power you wish to use " or have to use " as long as it does not effect the look of the bus , i suppose there is nothing really lost .

Don't understand all the heated exchanges here (no pun intended).
I'd like to have kept my bus original and stock, but it's old and things went wrong and needed replacing, and I chose from what bits were available at what cost to what benefit and possible improvement to my ownership and use of the bus. Technology has moved on a lot.
People fit better lights, add gauges, upgrade carbs, put in modern oils, improve brakes, add power steering, rebuild and tune engines... it's just a matter of choice isn't it? Each to his own, opinions differ as they always will, we don't all have to agree... can't we just disagree nicely?
