What's wrong with Subaru engines in bay window campers

He got served months ago and for me it feels like intellectual equivalent of reusing a condom.

Not necessarily my own condom either.


Also, people really need to understand IP....least I use my own profile when having a spat.

Its an interesting argument (the Subaru bit, not the who's most special friend!).

I have a 1600 aircooled. As a driving experience it does suck a bit on the motorway and long journeys. And MPG could be (much) better.

So what do I do? A bigger engine with external oil cooler and twin carbs? Thats not original either. Or stick a Subaru engine in it? Or some other engine altogether (). None of this is original, but all would allow it to make a better fist of keeping up with modern traffic.

I'm all for doing whatever you need to do to make the bus work for you, so fit a different engine, rip out your westy interior, punch windows in your panel van, lower it, fit a pop top to your tin top if it means you will actually go and use it. I'd rather see stories of peoples far flung adventures (thinking of what @Sick Boy posted recently) than stories of peoples bus that lives in a garage and once a year goes to a show to win first prize in the show and shine - thats just me though.

I'm staying aircooled at the moment as I like the simplicity (and I'm skint that doesn't help). When I do eventually upgrade, it will be to some larger aircooled lump, as I can't be doing with ECUs and electrickery... I am hoping to pick up a subaru engine though, but in a forester as a daily driver.

As summed up by others above though, its all about personal choice.

 

What a totally pointless and childish thing to have an argument about! It's a bit like arguing that someone's put the wrong wallpaper on their own walls or put the wrong letterbox on their own front door.

I saw a thread some where about some Earlies that were built as electric vans from new. All very experimental at the time and obviously not too successful. Two I believe have turned up in the last decade but I'm not sure what happened to them. The batteries were always the issue as in storage capacity, but we ran lecky milk floats for a long time but nothing involving high speed.

Late bays supposedly are better built suppose they are......... but there alot heavier..................
thats why they developed the type 4 engine.

Where as early's are lighter and don't have rear lights of a Datsun.


Question why don't people convert to a diesel?
