Was listening to a night at the opera earlier on, forgot I had it on vinyl. Then again going through some of my old stuff there's loads I forgot I had
I saw AC/DC around 1978 when Bon Scott was the lead singer after having seen them on tv programme called Rock goes to college, its available on Youtube, Ive not realy been a fan of Brian Johnsons stage presence, nor can i understand a single word when he sings, but he has a great presence when he is nterviewed also some great TV series he has been involved with as a presenter, but the overall performanxce by AC/DC are always outstanding ........ as if i know anyhing
The base on this live makes a great song brilliant for me. Googled the bass player - what a remarkably sad ending to a talented life - Paul Gardiner.
Check out the bass line on "Jo the waiter "from Tubeway Army's first album, I would assume it is the same chap.
100% - Paul Gardiner and Gary Numan were the only consistent members up until Gary 'retired' in 1981. hell of a player
Do I remember you buying a rather nice bass geeetar? We liked tubeway army at the time (me and a friend who incidentally played bass) because they sounded a bit like Bowie would if he recorded in his bedroom. Bowie had ace bass playing on the earlier albums (Trevor Bolder), it wasn't just there to make some rumble as if often the case today. Not to mention Rick Wakeman popping in and making stuff up that would live forever, on the spot, for the price of a few pints!
Sarah has/had a rather gorgeous semi acoustic Hofner bass. If we ask nicely she might post a piccy of it
Saw them in '79 with Bon, then the back in black tour 2 nights at the Sheffield city hall. Down at the front for both nights couldn't hear for a week. Think he sounded different after B I B, and never quite hit the highs of that album. Wanted to see them with Axl as I think his voice suited early ac/dc.
