What to do?

Discussion in 'General Discussion' started by dazzle, Nov 26, 2011.

  1. I have some spare time on my hands for the next month and im wondering what to do with myself. Apart from the odd jobs Donnups has for me i find myself starring out a Rusty thinking i really should be doing something with her.

I'm not a mechanic by any means and am some what nervous about taking things apart but having said that i feel that now having a bit of down time from work maybe i should start getting my hands dirty and giving things a go. I've told myself that if i cock up i can come on here and you lovely people will advise me on how to sort my mistakes out but really i need to know what maintenance work i should be carrying out during the winter months.

    Suggestions for a novice welcomed.

I'd start with a service, plugs points, oil change, filter etc. Do one bit at a time try the van after each bit and then if the van stops working you'll know exactly what bit is wrong.

Have a go at a simple job first & get some confidence in what you can and cannot do...same as everyone says, take plenty of pics and ask for advice on here, you'll get plenty of help!

  16. I'd do an oil change and while you're there check the round sump plate has got a drain plug in the middle of it.If not, they're easily available and will make your future oil changes a lot simpler, just undo the centre bolt to drain rather than all the little sump plate bolts.
