What bit do I need?

  1. I've had this issue for so long I have forgot what used to be there. My van door windows have a gap on the outside that let's all the rain in. What do I need to fix it? 20210121_151029.jpg 20210121_151034.jpg 20210121_151029.jpg

  2. New outer scrapers

  3. And three days, new thumbs and a large supply of alcohol to fit them.

  4. So I'm buying new doors then. Anyone got some?

  5. Nah you'll be fine, it's just a bugger of a job. Although once you get the hang of the spring clip things it's tolerable.
I think I got an old flat bladed screwdriver and cut a slot in the middle of the blade to stop the spring slipping off.
    Have fun.

The joke is you have to almost completely dismantle the door to fit them. The scrapers are, or were, part of that ali trim that goes most of the way round.

I thought the rain always got in. All you need is a couple of drain holes in the bottom of the door.

  11. The new repro ones are horrible. Try and find some decent originals or you’ll be doing it again in two years. And don’t bugger up the aluminum trim !
Such a lovely way to spend a day,, Enjoy !

There is an upholstery tool you can buy that comes with various interchangeable tips which helps. I used one on the scrapers when I fitted out my doors back in 2011 when you could still buy new non-Brazilian doors from JK. Dont think they were that expensive then...£300 each..

The remainder of the water flow is "solved' by..

Scrapers slow it down. Water drips off the bottom of the glass into a U shaped metal channel coated in Waxoyl. It runs downhill in the channel to the front, drips into the bottom of the door onto another waxoyl coated area then out of the drain holes. Bus is parked nose downhill by preference.
Membrane behind door card stops damp reaching the card.
    Door is well painted inside.

Nice little thread over in Tech, just about covering most of this subject. The one thing they didn’t cover was using Savlon or TCP after, for all the little mementos you’ll pick up in the process :theforce:

Think it was Deefor. and Sterling Moz amongst the protagonists

    Ozziedog,,,,,,,have fun :)

  15. Half way through door one today..

Having to rebuild the quarterlight a bit .. spring clips on outer scraper only took 20 mins though so I'll take that as a win

Yes after the first half a dozen.
That trim is flimsy if you're unwary and not something that will bend back if you put a kink in it!
The wire on the inner one is a puzzle but easy when you know how.
The quarterlight - nope, push it forward more - it won't - it must and DO NOT loose that very short self tapper that holds the top to the door because anything longer will bottom out and you do not have one in your odds and sods tins/bucket/box(es). I'm still unsure how you're meant to get the bottom bit through between the door skins because lets be honest, it's a physical impossibility. :)
